1956-02-20 2020-12-21
On Monday, December 21, 2020, Dr. Celyna Delgado, passed away. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Jayme. Dr. Delgado is also survived by her uncle, Antonio Davila, and his children Monica, Christopher, and Danielle. She will also be missed by cousins: Myrsa, Mara, Debbie, Delia, Michele, Mary, Kathy, David, and Michael to name a few.
Although her parents were native Texans, Celyna was born in Minneapolis, MN, while her father was studying at the University of Minnesota. Celyna spent her formative years in Austin, TX where she graduated from Anderson High School. She went on to attend the University of Texas at Austin where she was proud to continue a UT pharmacy family legacy: her father, Dr. Jaime Delgado, was a well-known UT College of Pharmacy faculty member and her mother, Celia Delgado, was also a graduate of the College of Pharmacy. Celyna received her B.S. from The University of Texas College of Pharmacy in 1978. She went on to receive her M.D. from The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Louisiana State University Medical Center. Celyna was a founding member of the Institute for Women’s Health practice in San Antonio, TX and then worked as a member of the Women’s Health Texas network. She was unwaveringly committed to her patients and brought thousands of babies into the world.
On Saturdays between August and December, you would find Celyna cheering the Longhorn football team. Celyna also enjoyed many creative outlets like cross-stitching and crocheting. She was an avid reader who was always ready to share a book recommendation. Celyna loved to travel, and often centered her adventures around visits with the family and close friends. Celyna decided to expand the family through adoption and in 2006, she became the devoted mother to Jayme Delgado. Jayme is a strong, smart, and talented young lady; the Delgado legacy lives on in her.
Celyna was an excellent host. Whether it was a pool party or a holiday gathering, her home was always open to all. She had a passion for giving back and helping others succeed; she supported countless people in their time of need. Celyna also had a huge place in her heart for four legged friends and, as such, adopted many animals from the Humane Society.
