1956-05-15 2024-06-30
Jack Edward Land, Jr., beloved brother, husband, and father passed away on June 30, 2024, at the age of 68. Jack was born on May 15, 1956, in San Antonio, Texas to Jack and Florence Land. He grew up in Austin, Texas, cherishing the fond memories of his parents and siblings Tom, Carrie, Dennis, and Paul. Jack joined the Air Force after high school and soon moved on to a technical career working for IBM. His career spanned over several decades until a previous injury forced an early retirement.
Jack will be remembered for his hard work and dedication to his family. He met his wife, Mary Gayle, going to his local doctor’s office where she worked. They got married in1980 and together they built a life full of love, laughter, so many many dogs and a lot of crazy. Jack was a devoted father to his two children, Melinda and Jack.
In addition to his family and career, Jack was a jack of all trades and there wasn’t a computer, vehicle, or appliance that he couldn’t fix. He enjoyed fishing with his friends, Nascar and was a member of the HCTC Car Club. Jack had a grumpy exterior, but a big heart. His generosity and kindness extended beyond his family and friends and he was always the first to lend out a helping hand. His selflessness touched the lives of many, leaving a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Jack was preceded in death by his father, Jack E. Land, Sr.; his mother, Florence Land; his brother, Paul Land; and his son-in-law Jose Aguiniga. Jack is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Mary Gayle Land; his daughter, Melinda Land; his son, Jack E. Land, III; his brothers and sisters-in-laws, Thomas and Kenda Land, and Dennis and Georgeann Land, both of Midland, Texas; and sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn Land-DeBoer and Mike DeBoer, of Georgetown, and several nieces and nephews; and last but not least his beloved grand-dogs, Thor, Lily, Oso and Sammie.
A memorial service to celebrate Jack’s life will be held at Austin-Peel and Son Funeral Home, 607 E. Anderson Ln., Austin, Texas on Saturday, July 20, 2024, from 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm. Jack will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his stubbornness, smile, and how much he loved and was loved by his family. May he rest in peace, knowing he led a full life of adventure, family, friends and love.
