Jim Griffin

1956-07-14 1999-05-12
James Stuart Griffin (Jim) passed away at the young age of 42 years. He died Wednesday, May 12, 1999, at Covenant Medical Center.

He was born July 14, 1956, in Lubbock. He was a 1975 graduate of Monterey High School and lived most of his life in Lubbock. He was a member of Texas Cattle Feeders Association and was a partner in American Feed Ingredient Inc. He was also in the restaurant business.

Survivors included his father, Louis E. Griffin of Lubbock (now deceased); a brother, Steve Griffin of El Paso; a sister, Lisa Hewitt of Plano; a niece; and a nephew.

Jim and I were great friends and spent a lot of time together all through junior high and high school. Our circle of close friends included Charlie Beasley, Phil Brann, Vance Alderson (Kay Alderson's brother), and others. Jim, Charlie, Phil, and I all went to St. Christopher's Episcopal Church and had loads of fun being involved with the youth activities of the church. To be sure, we weren't saints, but neither did we get into too much trouble. We were just typical teenage boys of the 1970's. We stayed in touch for a number of years following graduation, but eventually drifted apart after relocations from Lubbock and our lives taking different paths. But the memories of fun times, growing up together, and making discoveries of the world remain. Rest in peace, brother Jim.
