Elizabeth “Sissy” Larimer Lindsay Our precious Sissy, 65, of Las Cruces, NM, passed away on February 28, 2023. Sissy was born as a Christmas day present on December 25, 1957 to Joseph and Erika Larimer in Vernon, Louisiana. After Sissy graduated from Mayfield High School in 1975, she went on to be the first in her family to take classes at NMSU. She was a trailblazer for women, being the first to complete the Las Cruces Firefighter Academy and went on to become the first and only female firefighter for ten years. The city honored her accomplishment by naming December 15, 2008 after her. She was an entrepreneur and her true passion was helping. Sissy worked locally for many years, her most gratifying jobs were when she was helping people and animals. Over the years, she rescued countless animals. Once you were loved by Sissy, it was all encompassing and never ending. Sissy loved spending time with her family and always filled the room with contagious laughter. She loved flowers and gardening and was always so excited to show them off. Those who knew Sissy, knew how kind and compassionate she was. She was always the first to jump in to help, no questions asked. Sissy was preceded in death by her twin daughters Erika Arlene and Jean Elizabeth Lindsay, parents Joseph and Erika Larimer, husband Gene Lindsay, life partner Gene Bradley, sister Rosemarie “Schatzi” Staton, brother Joseph Larimer and brother-in-law Russell Armitage. Sissy is survived by her sisters, Carlotta (Florencio) Armitage-Medina, and Monika (Paul) Weyler, and brother-in-law, Jim Staton. She has many nieces and nephews, Kelly (Wesley) Coxsey, Kit (Shannon) Staton, Kevin (Crystal) Staton, Crystal Collett, and Brian (Michelle) Armitage of Oklahoma, Shawn Armitage, and Stephanie (Ernie) Sichler, of New Mexico, as well as her pets Whiskey, Hope, and Annie. She is also survived by many great and great-great nieces and nephews and many wonderful friends. All of these she loved and touched deeply. Sissy was loved so very much and we will miss her greatly.
