Rebecca Sue "Becky" Howard

Rebecca Sue "Becky" Howard, a cherished mother, sister, and friend, passed away on November 1st, 2023, at her home in Lancaster, KY, due to Vasovagal Syncope. Born on March 2nd, 1969, in Bowling Green, KY, she was adopted by D.H. Howard and Irene S. Howard, both of whom proceeded her in death, alongside her adoptive brother Michael Allen Howard. Becky was a beacon of love and warmth, touching the lives of those around her through her thoughtful nature and being a handy woman.

Becky attended vocational school and became a Certified Pet Groomer, a career that combined her love for animals and her innate creativity. She began her professional journey working as a secretary at Lexington Janitor, where she was known for her diligence and dedication. Her passion for pets led her to establish her own business, Doggy Styles Grooming, which she ran successfully from her home. Her customers appreciated her for the love and care she extended towards their furry companions.

She leaves behind her children, Amanda Brooke Showalter, Michael Royce Barker, and Tara Savannah Barker; she was an all loving mother to all her children. Her love for them was evident in everything she did, and she took immense pride in their achievements. She was the youngest sister of nine siblings and cherished every moment she got to spend with them. She is proceeded in death by her siblings, Linda Faye Niles, Lanny Wayne Dunn, and Barbara Sue Dunn, and survived by her siblings Willie Alford “Buddy” Williams, Anita Carol Tuggle, Jerry Wayne Meredith, Kenneth “Kinny” Lynn Miles, and Brenda Fay. She helped unite her biological family back together, and gave great compassion for them in each waking moment.

Becky was a woman of many interests. She found joy in the simplest things and had a knack for finding beauty in every moment. An avid seamstress, she spent many hours sewing beautiful garments and home décor. Her love for stories was not just limited to reading them. She was a natural storyteller, captivating her listeners with her vivid descriptions and lively narrations of the events of her life. She was also a formidable Scrabble player, often seen playing the game online, always ready to challenge her opponents with her impressive vocabulary. 

Her life was a testament to her loving and thoughtful nature. Always ready to lend a helping hand, Becky was known for her generosity and kindness. Her handy skills made her the go-to person for any kind of repair or DIY project. From fixing a leaky faucet to sewing a torn dress, she was the epitome of self-sufficiency. Rebecca Sue "Becky" Howard was a woman of strength and compassion, whose legacy will continue to inspire all those who had the privilege to know her. She will be deeply missed but her spirit will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all the lives she touched. Her life was a beautiful tapestry of love, kindness, and resilience, and she leaves behind a world that was undeniably better because she was in it.

James "Adam" McFarland

James “Adam” Ray McFarland, 53, of Kingsport went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday May 8, 2024, at his home peacefully with his family by his side. He was a longtime employee of Prendergast Construction. Adam was a loving husband, father, papa, son, brother, and friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Dorothy Rhoton.

Survivors include his loving wife of 18 years, Misty McFarland; special cat, Layhee; children, Nathan Douglas (Maria), Mason McFarland, Austin McFarland (Joanna), Alissa Kindle (Shane), Sydnee Evans, and Haylee Townsend (Nick); mother and father, Charles and Nina Stribling; father, Ray McFarland; grandchildren who were the light of his life, Beckham Gragg, Raelynn Gragg, Kehlani Jones, baby Jones due in August, Everleigh Douglas, Esmee Douglas, and Ander Pruet; sisters, LaDonna Doering (Mike), and Tammy Spencer (Timber); brother, Joshua McFarland; sisters-in-law, April Collings (Matt), Rachel Wright (Steven), Tiffany Gasperson (Jacob); along with several nieces, nephews and host of friends.

The family will receive friends from 5 pm to 7 pm on Friday, May 10, 2024, at Carter-Trent Funeral Home in Kingsport. A Celebration of life service will follow with Rev. Bill McFarland officiating. Friends may also call anytime at the home.

The family would like to extend a special thank you for the excellent care Adam received from the Gentiva Nurses especially Hannah and Tabbitha.
