The Legacy of 1974: Celebrating Our 50-Year Journey!
Summary of 1974 Class Gift to the High School
We are very excited about the class gift selected to give to the high school. We are asking you to consider giving any amount to support this worthy project for the students at U. City High School. Here is a synopsis of the class gift.
High school students are reporting alarming increases in depression, anxiety, and stress, which not only interfere with learning, but lead to more serious mental health issues including a rising tide of suicide ideation. Student mental health challenges are a priority for U. City High School. Our Class of 1974 is partnering with the district to develop the best "wellness space" possible. For many students, support at their school is their first and often only line of defense. Their school may be the only “safe space” in their lives.
The Gift of the Class of 1974 will help the High School furnish and equip a specially staffed Well-Being Space that is the centerpiece of a comprehensive approach to addressing the mental well-being of the student body. This converted classroom is designed to be a refuge for students and complement the School’s expanded counseling personnel specifically directed at this problem. Staff will be trained to assist students, but also steer the most troubled students to on-site professional counselors and social workers. The facts:
In addition, our gift will include an outdoor option to “unplug,” by funding a special “Tranquility Bench” that will be placed in a peaceful area of the School.
Our target for funds is $25,000 for multi-year support. Won’t you consider any amount to help fund our Class Gift to this worthy and important cause. Funds are tax deductible and will be administered and distributed by the University City Public Schools Education Foundation, Inc. (UCEF) as we direct. UCEF is a 501(c) (3) organization, so contributions are tax deductible to the extent permitted by law. To give a donation, go to:

Q&A Regarding the Class Gift of 1974
Q: What exactly will our money provide for the Well-Being Space?
A: Our class gift would cover physical needs such as special lighting, comfy chairs, a refrigerator for drinks and food, ice machine, water dispenser, and plants. Also “sensory items” including iPads and “manipulatives” (stress/anxiety relief items); and notepads, pens, coloring sheets, etc. for “calming corners.” The Class of 1974 will extend its “equipping” support to include a “Tranquility Bench,” to give students an outdoor option for stress relief which will be placed in a peaceful School location.
Q: Who will administer the funds?
A: The funds will be deposited in the University City Education Foundation (UCEF) and distributed as we instruct.
