Janet McLaughlin

1953-03-03 2009-06-28
Janet (Jan) Ann Martin, a truly beautiful spirit, passed in her sleep from this earth in the early hours of Sunday June 28, 2009 after a courageous three year battle with cancer. She leaves a void that never can be filled.
Jan was a kind and loving daughter, sister, wife and friend who brought much joy to all those around her with her zest for life and love of laughter. Jan would like to be remembered to her many good friends whom she loved so dearly.
Jan was born in 1953 in Urbana, Ohio, the daughter of William E and Eleanor (Fragale) McLaughlin. Jan is survived by her husband, John, mother, Eleanor, her brothers David, Gary and Bob (Diane), her sister Judy Sennitt (Matthew), her nieces Rachelle, Megan and Kelly, her nephew Bill, her in-laws, mother, Barbara, brother Bill, and sister, Nancy, her aunt Mary Ann Wallace, and her uncle Frank Fragale. She was preceded in death by her sister Joanie, her father William (Bill).
Jan graduated from Urbana High School in 1971 and later attended community college in Colorado. In 1981 she moved to California where she met her husband, John. They were married in 1991 and lived in Boulder Creek with their much loved German Shepherd dogs, the most recent being Lillie. She worked at "Zelda's" restaurant in Capitola and the "Portola House" restaurant in Santa Cruz, California for many years where she made many good and loyal friends.
Jan was a very talented stained glass artist and produced works through Crystal Rose Glassworks of Boulder Creek, California. She entered her works in competitions and won many of them. Jan was a keen gardener and an exceptional cook.
She loved sharing her homemade desserts with friends and neighbors. Her Christmas cookies will be missed by anyone who was fortunate enough to have experienced them.

Janet was a classmate and friend at St. Mary's School and Urbana High. She was also the first girl I ever had a real date with. We attended the "Spring Dance" held at The UJHS in our eighth grade year. We had fun and always laughed about it in later years. I saw her a few times after she moved out West when she would come back to visit friends and family. She seemed very happy with her life out there but was always wanting to know about former classmates. Needless to say, I was shocked and saddened to read of her passing in 2009. She was a good person with a great sense of humor. We miss you Janet...
