(1980) Johnny Carol Elliott

1961-07-15 2025-03-26
Johnny Carol Elliott, 63, of Wichita Falls, passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2025. Johnny was born to Sam J. Sr. And Effie (Bishop) Elliott July 15, 1961, in Wichita Falls, Texas. He married Sonia Maddox on March 6, 1981. They later divorced, but remained great friends throughout life. I believe their souls were truly connected, as he only survived 38 days without her on this earth.

In Johnny’s youth, he enjoyed showing livestock, and won the grand champion lamb at least twice. He loved being at the lake or river, anywhere outdoors with the sun on his skin and could be found anywhere there was a dance floor. He was a member of the Red River Riding Association and participated in bareback riding at our local rodeos. Johnny was a go-getter, daredevil, dreamer and a ladies’ man.

Johnny attended Burkburnett High School. He went on to begin his career as a professional welder, traveling the world with Piping Engineering, Worldwide, and JVIC.

His extremely active life abruptly came to a halt, after he was injured in a swimming pool accident the summer of 1997. He lived the last 28 years of his life as a strong-willed, quadriplegic; continuing to carry the titles, dreamer and ladies’ man.

He is survived by his son, Jody Elliott and wife Amy of Wichita Falls; daughter, Kimberly Burden and fiancé Travis Clemens of Burkburnett; four grandchildren, Gavin, Lyla, Ava and Maddox; three nieces, Stephanie, Jennifer and Jenna; one nephew, Guy Neal; and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lester and Sammie Jr. Elliott; a sister, Pat Shaw; and soulmate, Sonia Maddox.

A Celebration of Johnny’s life will be 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2025 in the chapel of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home in Burkburnett with Bro. Joe Coombes, officiating. Interment will follow at Burkburnett Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home in Burkburnett.
