About BikeWorks

BikeWorks is a family-friendly bike ride on the North Branch Trail of the forest preserve of Cook County to raise money for LivingWorks' AfterSchool and MusicWorks programs. This year participants will have the option of running or walking along the route.

The event will start and end at the shelter in Grove #5 of Harms Woods (see map). Official bike start time is 10:00 am, with walkers and runners starting at 10:30. A simple lunch will be served at noon, and a brief awards ceremony will take place at 1:00 pm. Parking is available in the Harms Woods North lot, with overflow available at the Central lot.

The all-trail route runs 5 miles to the Tower Road Boat Launch at Skokie Lagoons. A Support and Gear station there will provide riders with hydration and nutrition. Riders can either return to Harms Woods from there, or circle the northern part of Skokie Lagoons for an additional 4.4 miles. Riders are free to ride this route as often as they like for the duration of the ride.

Experienced riders who wish to ride farther that day are welcome to take advantage of the full 20 miles of the beautiful North Branch trail. A group of will be riding from Rogers Park to the event. Miles logged prior to the official start of the ride will count toward total BikeWorks mileage. The portions of the trail outside of the route described above are not part of the official ride, and will not be supported by BikeWorks.

Runners and walkers will start at the Harms Woods base and follow the same trail north to their turn-around at Happ Road (about 2.4 miles). Those wishing to go shorter or longer my do so by changing their turn-around location.

All participants are encouraged to raise as much as they can to support this wonderful organization, but the minimum individual riders need to raise is $100, and families/teams only $300.
