Dori Lemke

LEMKE, Doris Nell "Dori" (nee Chubak)
Dori passed away Saturday, December 16, 2017 in St. Paul's Hospital at the age of 62 years.
Dori was born in Saskatoon, SK to John and Anne Chubak. She went to school at Westmount Public School, Bedford Road Collegiate, and graduated from SIAST as a Registered Nurse. In Saskatoon she worked at the Sanatorium and City Hospital. While living in Michigan she worked at an institution for the criminally insane.
Dori's first marriage ended in divorce, but September 1, 1987 she married Jurgen Lemke. Three beautiful children followed: Erika, Richard, and Michael. Because of an accident while nursing, Dori's time was free to raise and care for them.
It was soon apparent that Erika had serious health issues and a move to Calgary gave Erika better health care. In the rental units where they lived existed a large undeveloped courtyard filled with garbage and weeds. Dori and Erika planned for and created a wonderful large park complete with large playground, beautiful landscaping, and an open amphitheater. Single-handedly Dori had pursued all of the donations by herself, planted all the sold, flowers, and trees herself, and was sole "contractor" from start to finish. Erika died from cancer before the park was finished, but Dori persisted and named the area Erika's Dream Park.
Dori loved children, not just her own, but all children. Neighborhood children would come to fish in her front yard pond. Little city children seen without mitts always benefited from a pair that she would take from a full bag in her car. The children at church adored her and so did her little nieces and nephews.
Dori had many adventures in her life, but the most memorable would be the trip she and her family took to Poland and Germany. There they met with Dori's relatives in Poland and Jurgen's family in Germany.
Dori loved God and was the first in her family to join the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She spent time volunteering in the Family History Library and worked hard to piece her own family tree.
Dori was a stubborn as a mule and as gentle as a lamb. Although she lived simply she was very generous. In the words of her son Richard, "she did much with very little". Dori was loved by so many.
Dori now joins in heaven her daughter Erika (2001); her father John Chubak (1979); her brothers Robert Chubak (2001) and John Anthony Chubak (1957); nephews Adam Brown (1976) and Jon Jon Chubak (1998); grandmothers and grandfathers: John and Aneila Chubak, and Alex and Katherine Stadnyk.
Left to remember her forever: her sons Richard Lemke and Michael Lemke; husband Jurgen Lemke; mother Anne Chubak of Saskatoon: sisters: Kathie (Robert) Evans of Saskatoon, and Dale Redington of Salt Lake City; brothers: John (Melinda) Chubak of Okotoks, AB, Robin (Sheila) Chubak of Salt Lake City, and Albert Chubak of Salt Lake City; sister-in-law Suzanne Zemp of Calgary. She also leaves, many, many nieces and nephews.
Donations in Dori's memory may be sent to Palliative Care in St. Paul's Hospital, to the Cancer Society, or to the Children's Wish Foundation.
The family would like to thank her doctor Dr. Viv Walker and Dr. Stakiw and all the wonderful care nurses on Floors 5 and 6 at St. Paul's Hospital that attended to Dori's needs. Dori was brave in her suffering.
