SAWCHUK, Sandra Margaret (née Jones) March 3, 1949 - April 3, 2019
The family is deeply saddened to announce Sandra's passing at St. Paul's Hospital on Wednesday, April 3, 2019, after a prolonged series of health challenges. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Mourning her loss is her husband of 45 years, Alex; her beloved daughter Julie and her husband Blake Barilla and her three adored grandchildren, Brynn, Hudson and Luke. She is survived by her siblings, Brenda Hildebrand (David) of Winnipeg, MB, Garry (Carol) Jones, and Patricia (Terry) Postey of Saskatoon. She is also survived by brothers-in-law Andy (Joan) Sawchuk and Terry (Debbie) Sawchuk of Saskatoon; sisters-in-law Elizabeth (Raleigh) Bridges of Groveland, Florida, and Karen (Manuel) Simon of Saskatoon. Also left to mourn are her much-loved nieces, nephews, cousins and cherished lifelong friends Ron and Doreen Braitenbach and Joan Stewart.
She was predeceased by her parents Leonard and Rita Jones; Alex's parents Ella and Stefan Sawchuk; her sister-in-law Terry Sawchuk; and her brother-in-law Bohdan Sawchuk.
Sandra was born in Rosetown, SK and spent most of her life in Saskatoon. She attended Mayfair School, Bedford Road Collegiate and Saskatoon Business College. She worked as an Administrative Assistant at the U of S and also as an Education Assistant with the Saskatoon Catholic School Board.
Her greatest joy was being a wife to Alex and Mom to Julie. Sandra was a great cook, homemaker and hostess. She loved being Nanna to Brynn, Hudson, and Luke and loved her role as Aunty to her nieces and nephews.
Over the years she faced her many health issues with courage and dignity. It was her strong Christian faith that led her through each day. "Precious in the sight of the Lord Is the death of His saints." Psalm 116:15. The family would like to extend their thanks to the Medical Staff on 7th Floor Medicine at St Paul's Hospital for the kind and compassionate care they provided to her. We would also like to extend our gratitude to Sandra's Home Care Nurses who provided exceptional care. They will always have a special place in our hearts. Sandra was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Hillcrest Funeral Home, 210 Wess Road. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the local Heart and Stroke Foundation. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.hillcrestmemorial.ca. Arrangements entrusted to Carley Brown.
