The family of Lloyd George Stephens-Newsham are saddened to announce his passing on July 29, 2014, in Victoria, B.C.
Born in Saskatoon, he was the first of six children of George Arthur Newsham and Hannah Jane Stephens. After spending his childhood on the farm, he moved to Saskatoon for high school at Bedford Road Collegiate, and received a BA in Physics at the University of Saskatchewan. He obtained his PhD in physics from McGill University, and worked at Dalhousie University before marrying Lois Rae Brown and settling in Montreal in 1950. In 1966 they and their daughters moved to Edmonton where he taught at the University of Alberta until his retirement. Lloyd and Lois relocated to Victoria in 1990.
He leaves his daughters Helen (Steve Jones) and Joan Johnson; Bob Johnson; sisters Kathleen Swalm, Margaret Fredeen, and Gwendolyn Newsham; sisters-in-law Pearl Newsham and June Newsham; and grandchildren Daniel, Kevin, Averil, Katheryn, Lucy and Victoria.
He was predeceased by his wife Lois, his brothers David and Ifor, and brothers-in-law Reece Swalm and Hartley Fredeen.
A memorial service was held in Victoria on August 8th.
