Stan Hill
2010-02-02
HILL, W. Stanley
With sadness, the family of Stan Hill announces his passing Tuesday, February 2, 2010.
Stan was born in Saskatoon in 1922 and attended Westmount and Bedford Road schools. He served as an aero-engine mechanic with the RCAF during WWII, following which he worked for the CPR in various capacities prior to his retirement in 1982. Stan loved music and knew all the words to every song. He was a fan of sports, especially hockey, football and curling; he loved to bowl and play shuffleboard. He could repair anything, and his daughter's first words are reported to be Daddy fix!. Gardening was a lifelong passion, as was planning the annual family camping trip down to the last detail.
He is survived by his daughter, Bev (Tom); son, Barry (Lesley); and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by loving wife, Margaret (2007); parents, Grace and Jack Hill; sister, Hilda; and brother-in-law, Henry Friesen.
Many thanks to the Veteran's Village including Physio, Nursing, Recreation and House 10 staff for their warmth, friendship and sense of humor, as well as the loving care they provided in the last 15 months of Stan's life. At Stan's request, there will be no funeral service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Sherbrooke Foundation Inc. in his memory (401 Acadia Drive, Saskatoon, S7H 2E7).
