Kathleen McDowell passed away in Saskatoon on Sunday, September 26, 2021.
She was predeceased by her husband, Stirling, in 2002; brother, George Fidgett (Saskatoon); and sister, Violet Lindgren (Edmonton). She is survived by her three children, Donna (Ron Jeppesen), Diane (Leo) Astalosch and David; three grandchildren, Katie (Paul) Peters, Amanda (Alex) Hooton and Derrick Astalosch; four great-grandchildren, Leo, Brooklyn, Chloe and Abigail; and brother-in-law, Ken Lindgren.
Kathleen was born in Saskatoon on November 18, 1932, the youngest child of Alfred and Annie Fidgett. She attended Caswell School and Bedford Road Collegiate, and graduated in 1954 as a Registered Nurse from the Saskatoon City Hospital and School of Nursing. Kathleen lived nearly all her life in Saskatoon, except for eleven years living in Ottawa, where Stirling served as Secretary General of the Canadian Teachers' Federation. She also enjoyed international travel with her husband.
The family would like to thank the staff of Quality Care Homes and Oliver Lodge for their excellent assistance and care. In accordance with Kathleen's wishes, a funeral service will not be held. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that charitable donations in her memory may be made to the McDowell Foundation for Research and Teaching, 2317 Arlington Avenue, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan S7J 2H8.
