SERNYK, Noreen (Moir)
On December 17, 2019 in Edmonton Alberta, Noreen Sernyk (Moir) peacefully left us at age 96. She was predeceased by Alex, her loving husband of 56 years; sister, Norma Carlson and brother, Gerry.

Noreen is survived by her son, Glenn and daughter, Janet Smalley and her husband Rick; step-granddaughter Keri and her husband, Kirk, and their children, Evan and Danielle LeBlanc; her sister-in-law, Sylvia; and many cousins, nieces and nephews of the Moir, Carlson, Sernyk and Jochmaring families.

Noreen was born and raised in Saskatoon and attended Caswell and Bedford Road Schools. Following her marriage to Alex in 1944, Noreen became an expert "home-mover, packer and social shaker" to keep up with and support her husband's career of 33-years as a project engineer with Imperial Oil. With over 28 moves across Canada, Noreen kept the family connected and lived her life in the service of others, with humor, curiosity, kindness and positive direction.

Noreen loved sports and reading and was a supporter of literacy and the arts. Trained in Library Science, she worked at libraries across the country and finally "retired" to her favorite volunteer posting at Canmore Public Library where she and Alex started the "Talking Book" program.

Four years after Alex's death at Edmonton in 2000, Noreen moved to the Canterbury retirement complex where she resided until November 2019. She was truly interested in others and she never forgot a detail about anyone or those they cared about. Noreen will be dearly missed by many.

A memorial to Noreen's long and loving life will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 11, 2020 at Canterbury Court, 8403-142 Street, Edmonton. Memorial donations may be made to Little Bits Therapeutic Riding Association or Teen Time of Edmonton.
