BENSON, Donald Wayne October 22, 1935 - April 26, 2017
It is with great sadness the family announces the death of Donald Benson occurred on April 26, 2017 at St. Paul's hospital in Saskatoon at the age of 81 years with his family by his side.
Don will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 56 years Frieda; his children, Trent Benson, Laurie (Bill) Friesen, and Shane Benson; his two grandchildren; Dustin (Lesia) Friesen, Danielle Friesen (Toby Cooper) and his great-grandchildren Kalyna, Alek, and Ksenya; his brother, Dr. Morris Benson along with his children Todd, Cain and Daryn.
Don was born October 22, 1935 in the city of Regina before moving to Saskatoon with his parents Art and Edie Benson. Don will be remembered for his contributions to 406 squadron division of the Royal Canadian Air Force; along with his efforts in the creation of Between the Crosses; a War Memorial at Woodlawn Cemetery. Don spent many years as an active member of the Army and Navy Air Force Veterans Club in Saskatoon. He spent his career spanning 34 years at Scott National Food Services in Saskatoon taking an early retirement at 61 years of age. Don will be remembered by his grandchildren as being their biggest fan, always on the sidelines of every sporting event. Don was an avid sports fan and spent many afternoons watching the Saskatoon Hilltops, and always proud he was a Bedford Road Alum.
The family will celebrate his life in a private service later in the year. Arrangements are entrusted to Acadia-McKague's Funeral Centre (306.955.1600).
