BURKE, VERA KATHLEEN (nee FREDERIKSEN)
Age 101 years died on December 31st, 2014 at Stensrude Lodge in Saskatoon, SK. She was born at Dundurn, SK. to Albert and Bessie Frederiksen on April 17th, 1913.
Vera was predeceased by her loving husband Allan on January 9th, 1997, after nearly 55 years of marriage. She was also predeceased by her father in 1941, her mother in 1963, brothers, Albert 1927 and Herbert 1987, sister Mildred Condon in 2003, brothers-in-law Jack Condon 1963 and Jack Braithwaite 1970 and sister-in-law Helen Frederiksen 1996. Vera is survived by her twin sister Verna of Sydney, B.C. and several nieces and nephews and their families.
Vera took her elementary schooling at Dundurn SK. and her high school at Bedford Road Collegiate in Saskatoon. Vera married Allan Burke of Langham SK. on May 23rd, 1942 in Saskatoon. In 1946 they moved to Langham SK. and operated the Central Hotel. They retired to the west coast in 1967. They returned to Saskatoon in 1983.
Knitting, sewing, ceramics, bridge and bowling were among the wide variety of activities enjoyed by Vera. She was a keen member of the Saskatoon Craft Guild. Vera's sincere friendliness, warmth and compassion will long be remembered by many whose lives she has touched. Family and friends will fondly remember too, her genuine hospitality and how she entertained with the most delicious meals.
Memorial donations in Vera's honour may be made to the charity of choice. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Vera on Tuesday, January 6th, 2015 at 2:30 p.m. at Holy Spirit Parish (114 Kingsmere Place, Saskatoon, SK.) Arrangements entrusted to Saskatoon Funeral Home (306) 244-5577.
