John Pernarowski, age 90 years, passed away on Saturday, November 8, 2003, at Sunnyside Nursing Home, Saskatoon, SK.
He is survived by his brother, Peter of Saskatoon; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his wife, Mary (1998); parents, William and Mary Pernarowski; brothers, Steve and Michael Pernarowski; and sisters, Annie Chomyn and Nellie Trischuk.
John was born on January 5, 1913, in Tuelon, Manitoba. He moved to Saskatoon in 1914, where he attended Princess Alexander School, Bedford Road Collegiate, and Normal School. After graduation from Normal School in 1933, he taught school in Rosthern and Arran, Sask. In 1941, he joined the R.C.A.F. After completing the required courses, he became an Armament Instructor. He instructed in Montreal, Mountain View, Ontario, and Dafoe and Boundary Bay O.T.U., British Columbia. While on discharge in 1945, he taught high school in Mildred, SK. In 1947, he was employed by the Department of National Revenue as an Assessor and Auditor. He transferred to the Canadian Pension Plan as a field officer for northern Saskatchewan in 1968.
In 1975, John retired after being in the Public Service for 42 years. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, curling, bowling, and landscape painting on oil, some with limitations as time went by. He was also a member of the Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral and T.Y.C. Ukrainian Orthodox Men's Association.
Prayer Service for John will be held on Tuesday, November 11, 2003, at 7:00 pm, at Park Funeral Chapel, and the Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, November 12, 2003, at 10:00 am, at Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral of Holy Trinity, with Rev. Fr. Taras Makowsky officiating both services. Interment to follow the funeral service at Woodlawn Orthodox Cemetery. Arrangements in care of Park Funeral Chapel (244-2103).
