Glenys Barker (Woodward) passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family at Royal University Hospital on Tuesday, January 25, 2011.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Keith Jenkins of Saskatoon and her daughter, Marilyn Woodward of Calgary. Glenys is also survived by members of the Barker family.
Glenys was born in Bargoed, South Wales, May 21, 1922. She emigrated to Canada with her family in 1930. She attended Westmount School and Bedford Road Collegiate. She worked at Caswell Hill Pharmacy until her marriage to Len Woodward in 1943. She was a devoted wife, mother and daughter who always made family her first priority. She was a stay at home Mum who supported her family in every way she could. She was well known for her inventive cooking and baking. She was an avid gardener and every summer her yard was a mass of colorful blooms.
Glenys was a lifelong member of the Anglican Church and attended Christ Church until she helped found St. Luke's in 1949. She remained a faithful member there until its closing in 2005. She served as Sunday School Superintendent, a member of the Ladies' Guild, choir, Vestry and as a delegate to Diocesan Synod.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Len Woodward in 1968, her second husband, Les Barker in 2008, her mother, Elsie Davies in 1983, her father, Rev. Fred Davies in 2000 and her brother, Pilot Officer Freddie Davies in 1944.
The funeral service will be held from the chapel of the Saskatoon Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. on Friday January 28 with Canon John Davies officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Chronic Renal Disease Clinic at St. Paul's Hospital or the Heart Function Clinic at Royal University Hospital would be appreciated.
