DAY
The passing of Harry Day, age 93, occurred on Sunday, October 10, 2004, at Saskatoon City Hospital. He will rejoin his beloved wife, Jeanne who predeceased him in July 1978; and his little grandson, Jarrett Day.

Dad was born in Blackpool England in 1911 and immigrated to Canada with his family in 1913. He attended Westmount and Caswell Elementary Schools and Bedford Road Collegiate. He continued his education at the University of Saskatchewan where he graduated as a Civil Engineer in 1935. For a brief time he instructed in the Engineering Drafting Department. Harry's creativity was most evident while working in Vancouver in a business that designed and created display items used in promotions.

He returned to Saskatoon to assume control of the family business, J.O. Day Painting Contractors, a company that later became known as Day's Paint Ltd. In the paint industry he was one of the forerunners in new techniques and products. Those who worked for him benefited from his efforts and acknowledged the positive impact of his many contributions to the community. Dad leaves a legacy of business and community excellence that was recognized when he was inducted into the SABEX Hall of Fame in 2001.

Harry joined the Kinsmen club in 1941 and served as president in 1949. He was the representative for the Saskatoon Playground Association, the organization responsible for the construction of neighborhood playgrounds. He was a member of the Rotary Club, the K-40 and The Saskatoon Club. While a member of the Saskatoon Construction Association he was instrumental in the development of the Bid Depositry System, for this and his many other contributions he was awarded a lifetime membership. He served two terms as a trustee on the Public School Board. As chairman, his expertise was focused on construction and maintenance of facilities. He was a dedicated member of the Board of Trade volunteering his time to enhance and strengthen the business community.

As a young man he was a natural athlete winning Provincial awards in both track and field and hockey. Dad loved golf. He was a real student of the game always striving to improve. For 52 years he enjoyed being a member of Riverside Golf and Country Club and was awarded a life membership in 2002. Dad loved design, architecture, geography, history, sports and travel. Our parents saw many parts of the world and loved the adventure. Dad was tremendously proud of his family and all of their accomplishments. The example he set was: keep learning, be honest, work hard, give back to your community, enjoy life and love your family.

Dad is survived by his children, John (Sandee), Joanne (Ron) Bahr, Rick (Doreen); grandchildren, Jeff (Heather) Bahr, Amy (Warren) Tutkaluke, Allison (Guillermo) Salazar, Amanda (Rick) Pilon, Cory Day, Jonell (Jody) Ulrich, Rickey Day, Riley Day; and his greatgrandchildren, Jakob and Madison Bahr, Joseph and Jackson Tutkaluke, Isabella Pilon, Guillermo Salazar and Hudson Ulrich.

According to Dad's wishes there will not be a funeral. In lieu of flowers, donations could be made to one of the following charities: Heart & Stroke Foundation (279 3rd Avenue N., Saskatoon, SK, S7K 2H7), Ronald McDonald House (1011 University Drive, Saskatoon, SK, S7N 0K4), Centre of Care City Hospital Foundation (701 Queen street, Saskatoon, SK, S7K 0M7).
