HOATH, Carl Dwayne January 5, 1967 - February 18, 2012
We have lost a great husband, a fantastic father, a family man, a good friend, and an encouraging coach. Carl Dwayne Hoath died on Saturday, February 18 of a heart attack. Carl passed away without any warning which makes his passing so difficult for us.
A Celebration of Carl's life will be held on Tuesday, February 28th at 2:00 at Elim Tabernacle, 3718 8th Street East.
He was born in Golden BC on January 5, 1967 to Larry and Gail Hoath. He was the youngest child with three siblings. Carl came from humble beginnings many would call his childhood difficult. As a child of divorce, things were never easy. He was always grateful that his athletics kept things in perspective. In 1982 he moved to Saskatoon to attend Bedford Road Collegiate where he eventually graduated. Here is where he realized his talents. He was a good basketball player, a fierce wrestler, a talented shot putter and javelin thrower and last but not least, a stand out football player.
That interest in football lead him to the Saskatoon Hilltops where he played five years as an PJFC all-star center (1986 and 1987) and in his first year with the team, they travelled to Ontario for the Armadale Cup against the Ottawa Sooners and won. But anyone who knew Carl knew he was very humbled by his accomplishments. He was invited to training camps with both the Toronto Argonauts and the Hamilton Tigercats but decided at that point, it was time to move on.
In 1990 he married Shelley Ozeroff and together they had two sons, Tristain and Tyler. Over the years, he was employed with Flexi Coil, Loomis, Saputo, Canada Post and for the past 4 years, he was working for Coca Cola always a warehouse employee who worked hard. But his passion was his family. Carl involved himself in everything his boys did. He always said he was going to be the father he never had and that he did.
He started coaching with the KFL when Tristain was 11 years old. He spent countless hours on the field and in the backyard working with the boys their foot speed, their stances, talking about counter moves. Our house revolved around football and it was because of that coaching that both boys developed into strong football players themselves. He watched Tristain join the Saskatoon Hilltops in 2009 and was there when they won Canadian Bowl titles in 2010 and 2011 and this year, he would have watched with pride as Tyler worked towards joining the very same team as a rookie. His dream was to one day watch a Hilltop game with his two boys on the offensive line that would have been the ultimate achievement for him. We will keep that dream alive for him.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Shelley; his two sons, Tristain and Tyler; his parents, Larry Hoath and Gail (Barry) Bolt; his sisters, Debbie (Richard) Berube, Kim Hoath, Robin (Craig) Bolt; his Ozeroff family of parents, Micheal and Dorthy Ozeroff, brother Darrell (Chrissy) Ozeroff and sister Tanya (Dale) Petrun; and his many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brother Larry.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Saskatoon Hilltops PO Box 243 Saskatoon SK S7K 3K4. Condolences may be sent to mail@saskatoonfuneralhome.com. Funeral arrangements entrusted to SASKATOON FUNERAL HOME. 244-5577.
