Mom passed away peacefully at St. Paul's Hospital on Sunday February 27th, 2011 surrounded by her family. She was born in Saskatoon SK on April 29th 1936, and lived on a farm in the surrounding area of Big River. In 1943, her family moved to Flin Flon, MB where they lived for 2 1/2 years. The family then returned to Saskatoon where Mom attended Thornton and Victoria Elementary schools and Bedford Road Collegiate. Mom served in the Armed Services Reserves for a period of time. Mom married Ross Edwards our father in 1953.
At the age of 15 Mom started working for Shelly Brothers as a cashier at many OK Economy, Shop Rite, Loblaws and Super Store locations in Saskatoon. During her employment with Shelly Brothers she was commissioned to help with the opening of a Super Store in Saskatoon and Prince Albert. This was a significant point of recognition in a career that she was very proud of. Her career then took her to Canada Safeway at Lawson Heights, where she worked until her retirement in 1997 when she and Joe decided to move out to the acreage where she enjoyed her gardening, crocheting and meeting new friends as she was always chatting with anyone.
Mom was a very strong woman and battled many different adversities. Mom was a jack of all trades never a task to big or too small for her. One of her favorite expressions was (my dad always said) "Don't tell me who you are, tell me who you are with and I will tell you who you are."
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Paul's Hospital Foundation 5th Floor Medicine. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, March 4th, at 2:00 p.m. at Mayfair United Church (902-33rd Street West) with Rev. David Moors presiding. Arrangements in care of John Schachtel MOURNING GLORY FUNERAL SERVICES (978-5200). www.remembering.ca
