WENINGER, Edna Loraine (nee Boor) April 25, 1930 - January 26, 2018
Edna Loraine Weninger passed away peacefully on January 26, 2018 at St. Paul's Hospital Palliative Unit with family by her side. This was after a long, courageous battle with cancer.
Edna's bright light shone upon everyone she met. She had many passions in her life from nursing, being a #1 Roughrider fan, baking, travel, friends and most importantly her family. She always put others first before herself and cared deeply for those around her.
Edna was born in Melville, SK on April 25, 1930 to Mary and Earl Boor. Edna was the second of five children – 3 brothers and 1 sister. The family moved to Davidson in 1942 and in 1945 made their way to Saskatoon. Edna attended Bedford Road Collegiate. Upon graduation she attended nursing at the Psychiatric Hospital in North Battleford. She made many lifelong friends during her training and through her career as a psychiatric nurse. Edna's nursing career included the Saskatchewan Hospital in North Battleford, Wascana Centre in Regina, and Sherbrooke Community Centre in Saskatoon. She retired from nursing in 1985 and remained close friends with her fellow nursing colleagues.
Edna married Terry Ratcliffe-Smith in October, 1951. Together they had 3 children Brenda, Jim and Don Ratcliffe-Smith. Brenda passed away at the very early age of 37 of breast cancer and left behind a wonderful son, Danny, who was the joy of Edna's life. Edna married Ray Weninger in 1983 and had many happy years together until the passing of Ray in 2007. Their fondest times were spent at their cabin at Emerald Lake with friends and family.
Edna is survived by her son Jim (April) Ratcliffe-Smith of Kelowna and their family: Christopher; Crystal (Nathan) and their children Faith, Gracie, Matthew, Samuel, Noah and Lucy; Nick and his children Darby and Izzy; Hannah (Maddie); Beth (Ted); her son Don (Adelle) Ratcliffe-Smith of Saskatoon; grandson Danny (Britney) of Edmonton and their children Cale and Finnley. She is also survived by her brother Ray (Marie) Boor of Chateauguay, Quebec; her sister Sandra (John) Howard of Shell Lake, SK; sisters-in- law Lee Boor of Ottawa and Lorraine Boor of Saskatoon; and many special nieces and nephews. Edna was predeceased by her parents Mary and Earl, husband Ray, daughter Brenda, brothers Ken and Norm Boor, and nephew Casey Howard.
The family wishes to thank Saskatoon Home Support, Palliative Homecare, and St Paul's Palliative Care Unit for the excellent care, support, and compassion provided to Edna. A Celebration of Edna's life will take place on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens (RR 5, Site 510, Box 2, Saskatoon) in the Social Room. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donations to the St. Paul's Palliative Care Unit via St. Paul's Hospital Foundation (1702 20th Street W, Saskatoon, SK, S7M 0Z9) or to Ovarian Cancer research (www.ovariancancercanada.org).
