MCBEAN, NONA SARAH (nee Richardson) June 29, 1923 - April 5, 2013
With deep sorrow we announce the death of Nona Sarah McBean at St. Paul's Hospital on April 5, 2013. Thank you to the staff who provided compassionate care to Nona, her children and their families.

Nona McBean was born in Saskatoon on June 29, 1923 to Albert and Maggie "Dot" Richardson. Nona attended Caswell Elementary School, Bedford Road High School, and graduated from the University of Saskatchewan. After graduation she worked, first in Winnipeg for a short time and then in Saskatoon where she met and married William (Bill) McBean in 1947.

Nona worked at both City and Royal University Hospitals while supporting her husband in his pharmacy career as well as raising their two children, Susan and Bill Jr. In 1964, Nona helped Bill open and operate their first of four pharmacies, Cumberland Pharmacy, followed by Phoenix House Pharmacy, Clarence Ave Pharmacy, and Hewgill's Drugs, which later became McBean's Drug Store.

Nona was a supporter of all her children's many activities and could be considered as the definition of a hockey mom. She looked after the rink in the backyard, watched the outdoor games, and helped the kids tie their skates and thaw their frozen feet.

In the sixties, Nona began travelling to Corpus Christi, Texas to escape our winters and spend time with her sister and brother in law, Margie and Mark Hulings, her nephew Mark Jr. and niece Mary. In the early 1990's Bill Jr. also moved to Corpus Christi so her time there also involved extended time with Bill, Lynnda and their family. During the summers Nona and Bill Sr. loved to spend time first at Wakaw Lake, and later at Wadin Bay on Lac La Ronge where they enjoyed exploring, fishing, and being with their children and grandchildren.

Nona lived the last 16 months at Circle Drive Special Care Home. She was happy, content and loved by all staff. Our family cannot find the words to express our gratitude to all who helped her look forward to each new day. She loved each of you.

Nona was predeceased by her parents Albert and "Dot" Richardson, her brother Jack Richardson, her sister Margaret Hulings and her husband Bill Sr. Nona's memory will be treasured by her children: Susan (Roy) Nazarenko of Saskatoon, and Bill (Lynnda) McBean of Corpus Christi, Texas; her grandchildren Jane (Bill) Smith of Edmonton, Shauna (Sean) Butts of Kailua Hawaii, and Scott McBean of Saskatoon; and her great-grandchildren David and Gordon Smith and Kaitlyn Butts. She will also be lovingly remembered by her sister-in-laws, Dorothy Cram, Lillian McBean and brother-in-laws, Mark Hulings Sr. and Stuart McBean, Ann Radcliff, Blaine Nazarenko, Billy Sterett and her many nieces, nephews and their families.

She will be missed by all who knew her and remembered by many people for her kindness, strong character, loyalty, and generosity. Nona was the epitome of a lady.

At Nona's request there will be no service. A private family interment of her cremated remains will take place at a later date. The family gratefully declines flowers and requests those wishing to do so to make donations in Nona's name to Circle Drive Special Care Home or The Saskatoon Foundation. The family is hosting a come and go tea at the W.A. Edward's Centre on Friday, April 12, 2013 from the hours of 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Please come and share your memories with us and each other. Courtesy Parking will be provided at Saskatoon Funeral Home across 4th Avenue. Arrangements entrusted to Saskatoon Funeral Home (306) 244-5577.
