HRYTSAK, Peter T. October 10, 1929 - May 23, 2022
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Peter Hrytsak, at St. Paul's Hospital, in Saskatoon on May 23, 2022 at the age of 92 years.
Peter was predeceased by his beloved wife Virginia in 1992. He is survived by their three children: Valerie (Eugene) Nicholat and their children Christa Nicholat, Anita (Ryan) Tonn, and Evan Nicholat (Nadia Henry); Shelley Jenkins and daughter Marcy (Graem) Johnston and Virginia Rose, Peter's great-granddaughter; Angela (Jim) LaPointe and their daughters Candace LaPointe (Fraser Baalim), Jenna LaPointe. Peter is also survived by his sister Frances (George) Sherban, and by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents Ted and Mary Hrytsak, sister Slawka (Bill) Senkus, brothers, Andy (Jean), Art (Betty), Rudy and by a special friend Ellie Corbett.
Peter was born on October 10, 1929 in the Alvena district. He moved with his family to Saskatoon at the age of five, attended Westmount and Caswell elementary schools and graduated from Bedford Road Collegiate. After attaining some business training at the Technical Collegiate, Peter began his life career in the graphic arts industry.
After completing an apprenticeship at Midwest Litho Ltd., he took up employment with the Western Producer commercial printing division until 1965 when he initiated a new venture in the province, General Graphic Services. In addition to providing a variety of printing plate needs of printing companies in the province and beyond, Peter and his staff played an essential part in pioneering new cartographic techniques and electronic circuitry imaging when these processes were still in their infancy in this province.
Through the course of his employed life, Peter took a leadership role in trade union activity within the graphic arts industry. After establishing his own business, he took a leadership role in the Saskatchewan Graphic Arts Association, an association of printing and related companies in the province.
Although passionate about his work, Peter had time for family, home & school associations, church, charities and community involvements.
After retiring in 1984 but never retiring from an active life, he suffered for many years in a love/hate relationship with the game of golf at the Wildwood Golf Club. For over ten years he curled and served in several capacities on the executive, including presidency, of the Hub City Curling Club.
In any thing he undertook, his guiding principle was: " Never mind who gets the credit, just do it."
Special thanks are extended to the staff at St. Paul's Hospital, Palliative Care unit, for their care and compassion in Peter's final days, and to the staff at Stonebridge Crossing Retirement Home for Peter's care over the past two years. Peter will be sadly missed but forever remembered through cherished memories. In lieu of flowers, donations in Peter's memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
On May 28, 2022, at Peter's request, his cremains will be laid to rest alongside his wife Virginia at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens at a graveside gathering of immediate family.
Condolences may be left for the family at www.hillcrestmemorial.ca.
