THOMAS, Norma April 9, 1939 - April 9, 2022
On her 83rd birthday, Norma Thomas' life came full circle and she had to leave us.
Born in Shellbrook, Saskatchewan to the late Tom and Edna Young, Norma's family eventually landed in Saskatoon. There she attended Bedford Road Collegiate followed by graduation from the Saskatoon Teachers' College. Any further educational ambitions were swept away when she encountered the bohemian charm of budding broadcaster Stan Thomas, who she married in 1958.
From that time on, her greatest joy, purpose and pride became her beloved husband and their five daughters. Norma was a professional when it came to handling an abundance of children, curling miles of hair, taming the wild cowlick all in preparation for the school play, the choir recital, the Christmas Concert, the band performances and the public speaking competitions. The girls all costumed in stylish matching dresses from Adilman's Department Store.
From Saskatoon, to Winnipeg, to Vancouver and back to Saskatoon, Norma and Stan collected a wide assortment of entertaining and entertained friends. All were drawn in by her generous hospitality, good humour, unforgettable laugh and honest interest in every one. A friendship you could count on for a lifetime. Her compassionate and open nature enriched every endeavour, from managing medical offices to adventurous interior design.
Left to celebrate and always love her is her husband Stan and their darling daughters - Adrienne Thomas of Saskatoon, Lauren Thomas (Patrick Noone) of Sydney, Australia, Cara Thomas (Tony Giancola) of Winnipeg, Marla Thomas (Warren Mead) of Calgary and Nicole Semko (David Semko) of Saskatoon. Nanny was also a devoted grandmother to Brendan Thomas-Noone (Sheradyn Simmonds), Jordan and Hailee Mitchell, Jackson and Olivia Semko, Dylan Champion, Grace and Ella Semko. Unfortunately, her journey ended a bit too soon to meet her one and only great-grandchild, Jean Noone of Canberra, Australia. We will all hold her in our hearts and hear her joyful laughter for the rest of our days. Norma is predeceased by many wonderful friends and family who will be waiting for her to host the reunion party.
Our thanks for long term care from Dr. Richard Leakos and deep gratitude to Dr. Richard Mataraj, the wonderful nursing staff of 5100 Medicine and Rev. Heather Anderson for your care.
A Memorial Service will take place on Thursday, April 14 at 2 PM at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 812 Preston Avenue.
