STUART, Jean Isabel January 23, 1923 - September 30, 2019
Jean Isabel Stuart, nee McCartney, passed away peacefully at the age of 96 ½ years, on September 30, 2019 with family by her side. Jean was born January 23, 1923 to Peter and Jennie McCartney.
Jean was predeceased by her parents, her brothers John and Ralph, her granddaughter Adrienne, son-in-law Jim Biggs, and her husband, Jack. She is survived by her sister Dorothy Dougans (Livonia, Michigan) and her brother Peter McCartney (High River, Alberta) and their families. She is, also, survived by her son John Stuart (Colleen), daughters Lorraine Walters (Doug), and Elizabeth.
Grandchildren and great-grandchildren were very special to her and she took great pride and interest in their lives and happiness. Dean Stuart (Consuelo and sons Jack and Luke), Allison Kartusch (sons Andrew and Nathan), Jim Walters (Angela and children Brianna and Drew), Jen Walters (children Averi and Ty), John Walters, William Stuart (Samantha and children Sadie and Max), and Isabella Stuart.
Jean attended Princess Alexandra Public School, Bedford Road Collegiate and Tech Institute for Special Commercial. As a child, she lessoned and danced with The Nellie Small Dance School as an acrobatic dancer and in later years, as a dancer and drummer with The Saskatoon Girl's Pipe Band. During the Depression, she helped support her family through her dancing. She was an accomplished artist as a youth, and as she grew older, she loved to listen and learn about all the current and political events of the world, which she gladly offered her political opinion on. She spent many hours listening to CBC Radio and scouring newspapers and magazines.
When she was young, her family vacationed at Manitou Beach, Watrous. Eventually, the family purchased a shack tent at Waskesiu Lake, where she travelled every year of her remaining life, up until one year ago. Waskesiu Lake became one of her greatest pleasures in life.
Jean worked part-time for many years at The Hudson's Bay Company and thoroughly enjoyed her time in Ladies Dresses with the customers and her fellow co-workers. Over the years, Jean became Tiger Wood's number one fan, and collected from over the years, an extensive file of newspaper and magazine clippings of his spectacular career. Nobody has a clue where this interest came from.
Jean loved to take pictures of family get-togethers and the world around her. London Drugs will surely go out of business with the loss in sales of 35 mm film. Jean, a force of nature, will be greatly missed by her family. Another voice from the history of our lives and the previous generation of time, including the Second World War, the Great Depression and city history, will have moved on ahead of us.
At Jean's request, there will be no funeral, instead interment will occur at a later time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the "Close to Home" campaign which supports end of life care through the St. Paul's Hospital Foundation.
