PHILIPCHUK
Michael (Mike) passed away on Thursday, January 3rd at the age of 88 at Veteran's Village, Sherbrooke Community Centre.

He will be lovingly remembered by daughters Brenda (Clint) Neudorf, Cindy, Irene (Bob) Howe; son Gary (Marilyn); grandchildren Trevor, Jessica, Alison, and Michael Neudorf; Nathan and Logan Howe; Jaydon and Nicole Philipchuk; family friend Patty Cassidy; brothers Sylvester, Aurie (Dorothy); sister Marion Rowe; and his extended "family" at Veteran's Village. He was predeceased by his wife Tillie in 1988 and his brother John in 2004.

Mike was born in Saskatoon March 3rd, 1919. After graduating from Bedford Road Collegiate, he worked briefly as a forest ranger at Prince Albert National Park. In 1939, he enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces and served overseas until the completion of World War II. After returning to Saskatoon, Mike worked for 41 years at Intercontinental Packers. It was there that he met Tillie Seckinger and they married in 1950 and went on to raise four children. Later, as a result of complications due to diabetes, Mike moved to Veteran's Village care home and had been a resident there for the last seven years. We would like to thank the staff, volunteers and residents for their care and friendship.

Mike always looked forward to social and family gatherings which often included his favorite Ukrainian foods. He enjoyed gardening and continued that throughout his life. He had a true passion for looking after his many pets and had a love of all animals. Mike enjoyed watching classic movies and British sitcoms. He liked playing cards, completing jigsaw puzzles and following the progress of his favorite sports teams. He took an interest in the news of the day through reading the daily newspaper and watching the news on television. Mike was a kind, caring man with a good sense of humor. We will forever cherish the wonderful memories we have of our father and grandfather.

The Interment Service will be held at 1:30 pm on Monday, January 7th at Woodlawn Cemetery (21A Lot 52 North). A Memorial Service will take place at 2:30 pm on same day at the Chapel in Sherbrooke Community Centre (401 Acadia Drive, Saskatoon). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association. Arrangements are entrusted to MARTENS WARMAN FUNERAL HOME (934-4888).
