Marian Welder

WELDER, Marian
With as much peace and grace as the morning sun, Marian rose to Heaven Thursday morning due to complications with her diabetes.

She was predeceased by her parents, Christian and Mathilda Farden; her sister, Yvonne Kurenda, Stan Kurenda; and her special nieces, Amber and Goddaughter, Kim (Kurenda) Meyer who passed just two months ago. Left to cherish her memory are her devoted husband, Ken; her children, Kris (Kirby) Wright, Chantelle Haugen and Curtis (Liisa) Welder; and the five grandsons she spoiled rotten, Dallas, Wyatt, Austin, Garrett and Colby, each of whom would jump up and down waving an arm in the air when she asked who is Grandma's special boy? She also leaves two brothers, France (Deb) Farden and Moe (Madeleine) Farden; and several nieces and nephews, many of whom would quickly say she was their favourite auntie. Also left to mourn is her favorite auntie, Florence Farden.

Marian was born in Saskatoon on August 7, 1948. She attended Westmount School and Bedford Road Collegiate and met her husband, Ken during that time. They married June 10, 1967. Although they lived most those 40 years in Saskatoon, they spent a few years on the farm near Allan, SK. During that time, she drove school bus, often with one of her babies in a cardboard box on the floor. In 1977 they bought the house in which they spent the last 30 years, raising kids, and later running a care home, and entertaining grandchildren. She started at Canada Packers poultry plant in the late 70's where she plucked chickens for almost 20 years and retired in 1995 when the 2nd plant shut down.

She spent her retirement enjoying her grandsons and hosting family gatherings where we would always huddle around a board game and laugh till our bellies hurt. Her most cherished memories were of our family trips to Waskesiu in recent years and travelling through most of the 50 states with Ken. We know she's finally found a hot slot machine in Vegas somewhere.

A celebration of her life will be held Tuesday, July 31, 2007 at 10:00 a.m., lunch to follow at Massey Place Community Church, 930 Northumberland Ave. Donations can be made in her memory to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
