DAWSON, Victor Cornelius January 31, 1917 - June 7, 2007
It is with sadness that the family of Victor Cornelius Dawson, of Gold River, BC and Brentwood Bay, BC, announce his passing at Saanich Peninsula Hospital following a long battle with cancer.

Victor was born in Humboldt, SK, raised in Saskatoon and attended Princess Alexandra School and Bedford Road Collegiate. After leaving Saskatoon during the depression Victor worked as an electrician in the gold mines at Kirkland Lake, ON. During the war he helped build the synthetic rubber plant at Sarnia, ON. He then moved to Brentwood Bay, BC where he established his business Dawson Electric serving the Saanich Peninsula area and later developed a subdivision in Brentwood Bay which included his own solar heated home. Vic also wintered for many years in Captain Cook, Hawaii.

Honoring 35 years of service as Chairman of the Board of the Brentwood Waterworks District, the new reservoir was named The Vic Dawson Reservoir. He was an active member of the Rotary Club and past member of the Victoria Flying Club. Vic had Blackies cabin at Nahmint Lake where he flew into on weekends with his own float plane, he loved hunting and fishing. Victor was past president of the Brentwood Community Club, where he also taught gymnastics. Victor received a lifetime membership from Butchrt Gardens where he installed the original night lighting and the Ross Fountain, he also coordinated the lighting for the evening shows. Recently he relocated to Gold River, BC where he made many friends and pursued his interest in Real Estate.

Vic's innovative, enthusiastic and energetic personality touched many people and we will all miss him.

Victor was predeceased by his wife, Win; parents, Cornelius and Ada Dawson; Mabel Shiner; brothers, Ted and Jack; sister, Evelyn Richardson; brothers-in-law, Forest Byers, Jim Speers, Howard Bidwell, Ted Gunn, Ray Richardson; and step-son, Allan Shiner. He is survived by and will be greatly missed by his sisters, Hilda Byers, Phyllis Speers of Saskatoon, SK, Gwen Bidwell and Doris Gunn of Burnaby, BC Audrey (Buck) Olsen of Alberta Beach, AB; his brother, Bud of Kelowna, BC; sisters-in-law, Audrey Dawson and Millie Dawson of Saskatoon; step-sons, Graham and Barry Freeman; grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, June 29th, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Funeral Home (east on 8th Street, turn right before the railway tracks) with Clark Puckett officiating. Victor's family would like to thank the staff at Saanich Peninsula Hospital and Campbell River Hospital; his friends and neighbors at Gold River, BC for their loving care and compassion. In lieu of flowers the family requests any donations be made to The Canadian Cancer Society.
