GOA, Selma (nee Schmidt).
After a courageous battle with cancer, Selma passed away peacefully on July 23, 2006 at home in Prince Albert surrounded by her family.
She was born December 3, 1934 in the Waldheim District, the seventh of nine children to Joseph and Alvina Schmidt. They moved to Saskatoon when she was twelve and she attended Pleasant Hill School and Bedford Road Collegiate. Selma married Elmer Goa on April 30, 1954 and she worked at various jobs before and during raising of four children. After Elmer retired they moved to Chitek Lake, SK where they spent the summers and wintered in Arizona, New Zealand, Portugal and British Columbia. In 2000 Selma and Elmer moved to Prince Albert where she resided until her passing.
Selma loved her family, friends, church, singing, volunteering and travelling. She will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by everyone who knew her.
Selma is survived by her husband of 52 years, Elmer; her children, Val (Kim) Johnson of The Pas, MB, Ken (Karen) Goa of Auckland, NZ, Karen (Glen) Derksen of Goldon, BC and Barb (Tim) Schultz of The Pas, MB; her grandchildren, Vicki (Shayne) Crossley, David (Amy) Johnson, Kyle and Ryan Derksen, Josh, Mandy and Jenny Schultz; her great-grandchildren, Brett and Austin Crossley and Emma Johnson. She is also survived by her three brothers, Wes, Marvin and Stan; four sisters Alice, Miriam, Mildred and Mable; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, other relatives and very good friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Alvina Schmidt; her in-laws, Eivend and Johanna Goa; her sister, Shirley Brown; her sister-in-law, Vi Schmidt; her brothers-in-law, Henry Balzer, Arnie and Einar Goa.
The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, July 27, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. in the Messiah Lutheran Church, 1796-15th Ave E, Prince Albert, SK S6V 8A1 (306-763-7374) with Rev. Daniel A Haugen officiating. In lieu of other tributes, donations in Selma's memory may be made to the Messiah Lutheran Church.
