MCCAUL, Gordon McGillivray December 30, 1915 - May 31, 2011
It is with gratitude of sharing a life well lived and heavy hearts for a loved one lost, that the family of Gordon McGillivray McCaul announce his passing at 95 years of age on May 31, 2011 at Oliver Lodge in Saskatoon.

Devoted husband and beloved father he is survived by his life partner and wife of 69 years, Mary; his four children, Joanne (Lyn) Bannister of Vernon, BC; Don (Diane) McCaul of Phoenix, AZ, John McCaul of Saskatoon; Cathy (David) Mack of Lethbridge, AB; one sister-in-law, Ruth Culham, of Edmonton, AB; ten grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and six nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Cliff McCaul and his sister, Millie Lang.

Gordon was born on December 30, 1915 in Alsask, on the road to Calgary where Saskatchewan meets Alberta. He attended Westmount Public School and Bedford Road Collegiate and was an active member of St. Thomas Wesley United Church. He was a busy man in his community from his early years. As a student he was one of the founding members and first president of the Saskatoon Youth Council. He also served as president of the Young Men's Board of Trade in Saskatoon and of the Young Liberal Association. He held several financial positions on committees at St Thomas Wesley.

He enjoyed a successful career in the printing business. His first taste of publishing was at high school when he took on the job of selling advertising for the student yearbook, later he became its editor. When he left high school he plunged headlong into the printing industry working for Shopper's Guide and National Job Printers. He helped to found Midwest Litho in which he sold his interest in 1951 and came to work with Modern press, which printed The Western producer, phone books for several cities and many other publications. He managed the commercial printing operation for many years and in 1977 became the Business Manager of the entire division. He is credited with literally "getting the lead out" when he successfully converted Modern Press from a lead based printing operation to computer based lithography. He took an active role in printing organizations and served as president of both the Saskatoon branch and provincial branch of the Graphic Arts Association of Saskatchewan. He also served as director of the Canadian Graphic Arts Association and president of the Prairie Lithographers Association.

When he was not playing golf he was curling and his accomplishments in both sports were well known around the city. He was a charter and lifetime member of the Granite Curling Club serving as president and spent many bonspiel seasons managing the draw for the annual event. He was an honorary lifetime member of the Saskatoon Golf and Country Club and played golf with the same foursome for over 30 years. He was delighted with his hole-in-one on the course at Waskesiu. Somehow along with golf he managed to find the time to have a flower garden that was the envy of the neighborhood and admired by many.

Gordon had a love of family and the open road and he loved to combine the two. Summers would find he and Mary along with their four children singing along the highways in Canada and the United States in his various RV's. A practice he continued when meeting up with his grandchildren at favorite summer campgrounds. After retirement in 1979 he and Mary spent many wonderful winters as "Snowbirds" in Mesa, AZ.
