PENNER, AGNES
Agnes Aleta Penner passed away peacefully at her residence, Stensrud Lodge, on August 18, 2010, three days after her 97th birthday.
She was predeceased by her parents, Howard and Agnes Earle; husband, Gilbert; and siblings, Campbell Earle and Jean Newton. She is survived by her son, Glen (Wilma) and their children, Jan (Barry) and Brent (Marilyn); her daughter, Jean (Ron) Anderson, and their children, Darryl, Patti (Brian), and Craig (Christi); and eleven great grandchildren whom she loved dearly. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Mom was born in Saskatoon where her parents had purchased property in Riversdale and were instrumental in the building of St. Thomas Wesley United Church. As an infant, she moved with her family to Druid in 1913 where her father operated the general store for thirty-two years. Mom left Druid in 1928 to take her high school at Bedford Road Collegiate and then attended Normal School. She began her teaching career at Hoosier and later Lydden near Biggar.
She met Gil in Stranraer where he worked at the local grocery store. They married, lived in Stranraer, Cudworth, and Unity before being transferred to Saskatoon in 1948. Gil was the OK Economy Store Manager on 7th Avenue for twenty-five years.
Mom and Dad always provided a welcoming environment in their home. Sunday gatherings were a highlight of the week. Family was always important to them. Mom loved to bake and always had chocolate chip cookies and gingers ready for the grandchildren. She was an active participant in the Order of Eastern Star. Playing bridge, doing cross stitch and working out the cryptoquip were always part of her activities.
The family would like to thank the compassionate staff at Stensrud Lodge for their loving and respectful care to Mom. Memorial donations may be made to Stensrud Lodge at 2202 McEown Avenue, S7H 4Y7. The memorial service to celebrate Mom's life will be held on Monday, August 23 at 2:00 p.m. at Saskatoon Funeral Home followed by a reception at the W.A.Edwards Family Centre. (4th Ave. and 25th St.). Condolences may be sent to mail@saskatoonfuneralhome.com. Arrangements have been entrusted to SASKATOON FUNERAL HOME.
