ROMANIUK, NESTOR WILLIAM
Nestor was born April 18th, 1920 on the family farm near Sokol, SK, and died peacefully February 4th, 2010.
His schooling, from a one room country school through Rosthern Collegiate, Bedford Road Collegiate, Normal School and a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education from the University of Saskatchewan laid the foundations for teacher, principal, CNR conductor, independent businessman and father.
Nestor married Lilian Buczynski in 1939 and fathered Angeline (Art) Battiste. He was cherished by and proudly boasted of his grandchildren, Gabrielle Battiste, Katherine (Trevor) Pickerl, Shaun Battiste and Christopher (Brandi Neumeyer) Battiste. His great grandchildren, Andrew Zimmer and Nicholas and Ashley Pickerl were endless sources of delight even as he began to lose his wrestling matches with them.
Nestor will be remembered by everyone who was taught by him, worked for him or was related to him in any way as a man who expected nothing less than he demanded of himself a driving work ethic paralleled by generosity to those he loved and trusted, fueled by an unending thirst for knowledge.
Nestor was predeceased by his wife, Lilian (1960); his parents, Wasyl and Sofia (Chyz) Romaniuk; and brother, Steven Romaniuk. He is survived by his daughter and her husband and his grandchildren children and great-grandchildren and by his sister, Theodora Kowal of Edmonton and her daughters and their families.
