BURROWS, Jack Heath Burrows February 24, 1921 - January 31, 2009
We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Jack on Saturday, January 31, 2009 at the age of 87. He passed away peacefully at the Veteran's Home, Sherbrooke Community Centre.
Jack was born February 24, 1921 to John and Edith (nee Heath) Burrows in Saskatoon. He lived on a farm for about five years as a young teenager. Jack spent four and a half years overseas with the Canadian Air Force, and married soon after his return where he and Marg lived together in the Montgomery area for many years. Jack attended Princess Alexandra School and Bedford Road Collegiate.
He began his working career at Bowman Bros. (Acklands) for about 28 years, part of this was traveling and also for McQuay Norris traveling to machine shops in Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Ontario. Jack also worked at Imperial Oil, and in his later years, before retirement, he worked with Frontier Peterbuilt.
He loved yardwork, woodworking, especially his hobby of stamp collecting, playing cribbage, doing crossword puzzles and watching curling on TV Jack himself curled for many years and loved the sport. He was a member of the Kinsmen Club, the Saskatoon Nutana Lion's Club and the Stamp Club.
Jack and Margaret loved to travel, making many trips to Toronto (where Margaret grew up) and visiting England, Scotland and Australia to visit relatives. He especially loved taking cruises, camping (first with a camper and then with their motorhome), and many bus trips with friends and relatives. Jack gave many volunteer hours helping at the Veteran's Home, the Red Cross, as well as working with the visually impaired. He will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed.
He is survived by: his wife, Margaret; his children, Robert (Gladys) Burrows of Kitscoty, AB, Catherine (Douglas) Goosen and Barbara (Wolfgang) Sasse, both of Saskatoon, SK; six grandchildren, Bryan (Kimberley) Burrows, Maryanne (Jeffrey) Keddie, Kurt (Kimberley) Goosen, Kristin (Mark) Grant, Ryan Sasse, Jamie Sasse (partner Ryan Kolb); and seven great grandchildren, Jaylen Burrows, Paige Burrows, Brynn Keddie, Rolen Keddie, Liam Goosen, Marek Goosen, Olivia Goosen and another on the way; as well as several nieces and nephews. Jack was predeceased by his parents, John and Edith (nee Heath); and sisters, Hilda and Hazel in childhood.
A Service of Remembrance will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. from St. David's Trinity United Church, 3318 Merritt Street (Montgomery area) with Rev. Lorraine Harkness officiating. Interment of Jack's cremains will take place prior to the service in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are entrusted to David Schurr of ACADIA-MCKAGUE'S FUNERAL CENTRE 955-1600.
