LUCZKA, Ann Marie November 13, 1929 - February 21, 2008
The family of Ann Luczka is saddened to announce her sudden passing on February 21, 2008 at St. Paul's hospital at the age of 78 years.
Ann was predeceased by her loving husband, Peter on August 14, 2007; her father, Mike Hrycak, Andrew and Mary Smyshek, Bronie and Carrie Smyshek and Peter and Anne Jasienuik. Ann is survived by her children, Dave and Judy Luczka, children Chris, Jenn and Geoff; Myron and Irene Luczka, children Pamela, Jeremy and great-grandson Nycholas; Rick and Terese Luczka, children Nadia and Raina, Michael and Beverley, daughter Amelia; Julie and Terry Hrabowy, children Krystle, Tania and Orisha, Peter and Lori Luczka, daughter Sydnie. Also surviving is her mother, Angela Hrycak; sisters and brother, Michaelene and Peter Nowosad, Stephanie and Ed Sakundiak, Natalie and Norm McLeod, Eugene Hrycak, Walter and Ruth Smishek, Joan Robertson; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Ann was born on a farm near Alvena, SK. She lived there till 1935, at which time her father moved the family into the town of Alvena, where they operated a general store. Ann lived there till 1944 when the family moved to Toronto. The stay was short and in November 1944 they moved to Saskatoon, SK. Ann lived at the family home on Ave. H. and 28th Street and attended Westmount Public School and Bedford Road Collegiate. Ann worked at Shelley Western and the OK Economy in her youth and at Sears in the Midtown Plaza in her later years.
Ann and Peter married in 1952 and they started a home and family on Avenue M North and lived there for 20 years. Ann and her family eventually moved to Avenue U South and resided there for 29 years. In 2003 they moved to a condominium on University Drive.
Ann was a very active person. In her youth she enjoyed playing baseball. When Ann was not spending time caring for her family, she would be baking, embroidering, crocheting or making Ukrainian Easter eggs. To relax Ann loved to work in her garden or to go bowling. Ann was an active member of St. George's UCWL, The League of Ukrainian Canadian Women and the St. George's Senior Centre.
For all the things that Ann did, the most important purpose in her life was to care for her family. Ann devoted herself totally to the loving and health of her children. As a mother, sister and friend you will be greatly missed. May God hold you in his loving arms and grant you eternal peace and happiness.
The Vigil of Prayer will be held at St. George's Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral (214 Avenue M South) on Thursday, February 28, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Liturgy to follow on Friday, February 29, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at St. George's Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral.
