WIEBE, Gladys Evelyn September 30, 1923 – August 25, 2013
Gladys Evelyn Wiebe (Undershute) went home to be with the Lord and to be with husband Elton and son Richard on Sunday, August 25, 2013.
She was predeceased by Elton in 2002 and by Richard in 1977. Others who journeyed ahead of her, and were there for her arrival, were her parents Philip and Agnes, brothers Tommy and Clifford, and sisters Jean, Hilda, May and Marion.
Left with joy-filled memories of a wonderful influence are her sons Gary and Gordon; grandchildren Allison (Davin) Tedford of Sherwood Park, Alberta, Jessie Wiebe of Sherwood Park, Alberta, Sheena Wiebe, K. Faith (Matt) Couperthwaite of Allan, April (Chris) Wiebe of Osler; great-grandchildren Charlotte Tedford, Eli Couperthwaite, Janos Cekuric, and Dasen Cekuric.
Gladys was born in Eston but was raised in Isham. The family eventually moved to Saskatoon, where Gladys attended Bedford Road Collegiate and Tech School after that. She was a life-long attendee at St. Thomas Wesley United Church where she spent many happy years, singing in the choir and volunteering for various functions. It is also where she met her future husband, Elton, at a Young People's Union meeting in 1943. They were engaged the following year and married a year after that.
She generously donated to various charities and loved to travel. Hawaii was a dream vacation for Gladys and in February of 1970, she and Elton traveled there for their 25th wedding anniversary. They also spent time in Florida, Arizona, and California. She was an avid golfer and bowler for many years, and loved to play cards with family and friends, Gladys greatly valued her many friends over the years. And she was always on the move! Gladys liked nothing better than to get in the car and just go: shopping, hair dresser, visiting friends, choir practice, and church work. In earlier years, she loved to cook, bake and sew. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother; always ready to encourage and help, support and love.
A Celebration of Gladys' Life will be held at St. Thomas Wesley United Church, 808 – 20th Street West, Saskatoon on Friday, August 30, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. followed by a reception in the Lower Auditorium. Our family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff of Home Life Home Care for their wonderful care of mom while she was with them as well as the staff at Royal University Hospital. Memorial donations in Gladys' honor can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan, 1405 Faulkner Crescent, Saskatoon, SK, S7L 3R5. To send online condolences, visit www.parkfuneral.ca "Obituaries & Tributes". Arrangements entrusted to Derryl Hildebrandt, Park Funeral Chapel, 306.244.2103.
