HENDERSON, SARAH GERTRUDE HENDERSON (Trudi) nee Buie 1917 - 2013
It is with sadness that the family announces the death of Trudi Henderson occurred at her residence in Saskatoon on Saturday May 25th 2013.

She is survived by her son, Brian Henderson (Betty Anne Latrace Henderson) of Saskatoon; her daughter Janice Buie-Henderson of Nanaimo, BC and three grandchildren; Dawn Buie-Henderson of Toronto, Scott (Sherry) Henderson of Saskatoon and Michelle Henderson of Saskatoon. She was predeceased by her parents Duncan and Flora Buie (nee Ovens) and two brothers, Gordon Buie and Donald Buie and her former husband Ronald (Bud) Henderson.

Born in Collingwood, Ontario on September 1, 1917, Trudi came west to Saskatchewan at the age of two with her mother and two older brothers. Her father, a carpenter, built the family house in the tiny hamlet of Bounty. She often spoke of her happy memories of Bounty. Trudi learned to read before she went to school, taught by her mother, a schoolteacher; books were a lifelong enjoyment for her. The Buie family moved to Rosetown in 1929 and in 1931 to Saskatoon where she attended high school first, at Bedford Road and then City Park Collegiate.

Trudi excelled academically, especially in English. She dreamed of attending the University of Saskatchewan but the Depression intervened. She worked at a number of jobs before her marriage in 1943 including the position of bindery clerk at Midwest Litho. She worked a 5 day week but still had enough energy to go dancing on Saturday nights at the Legion Hall (current site of the River Landing). Trudi was a beautiful dancer but also loved playing sports, particularly softball and skating. Like many women of her generation who were homemakers, Trudi had ambitions and abilities that would not be realized. Instead her energies were used for creating vegetable gardens, cooking and baking wonderful meals, teaching Sunday School, supporting her family, and some fairly competitive 5-pin bowling at Hunter's Bowl Arena every week.

In later years, after her sight failed, Trudi continued to keep herself informed by listening to books and magazines on tape, as well as CBC Radio. She had a great affection for cats and dogs and shared her life with some very special animals.

The family would like to extend their thanks to the dedicated staff of Sunnyside Adventist Care Centre for their many years of care.
