Florence Cherrier
2004-03-05
CHERRIER, Florence (Gerecke) nee Farrell.
Florence passed away peacefully at the Sherbrooke Nursing Home on March 5, 2004 at the age of 93, after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimers Disease.
Born to Ernest and Elizabeth Farrell in Manchester, England in 1911, Florence immigrated to Saskatoon with her family in 1915, where she lived for the rest of her life. She attended Mayfair School and Bedford Road Collegiate. She then worked in the accounting field at such places as Eatons, Royal Motors, Kramer Tractor and finally Blanche Buchanan's until her retirement. She was a long time member of the Caramica Club of Saskatoon and the Saskatoon Bridge Club.
Florence will be remembered for her fortitude, honesty and integrity. She was so compassionate, so generous and patient. And full of fun. She could be heard laughing, telling stories and expressing an attitude to life that few ever achieve an ability to appreciate and enjoy life in the present, and not begrudge the past. She always saw the best in people. If we were all a bit more like Florence, the world would be a better place. Her spirit will live on and on.
Predeceased by her husband, Irv; her son, Kent Gerecke (Marcia); and her brother, Jack. She is remembered with love and respect by her son, Garth (Gus) Gerecke and daughter-inlaw, Marleen whose loving care of Mom is greatly appreciated; step daughter, Glenda Kirk; grandchildren, David Gerecke, Susan (Rob) Ferguson, Scott Gerecke, Elizabeth Mead, Bretta Gerecke, Kurt Gerecke, Kelly Turner, Danielle Turner, Keith (Betty) Gibson, Kevin (Debbie) Gibson; seven greatgrandchildren; her sister, Doris (Ken) McGuirl; nieces, Wendy (George) Meyer, Jill (Chris) Dubois, and Linda (Noel) Somerville, and extended family members.
The family expresses a special thank you to Dr. Yelland and her caregivers at the Sherbrooke Community Centre for their exceptional care of Mom. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mom's memory to The Alzheimers Society of Sask. or the Sherbrooke Community Centre. A Memorial Service to be conducted by Rev. Ray Purdie will be held on Friday, March 19, 2004, 3:00 p.m. at the Sherbrooke Community Centre Chapel, 401 Acadia Drive, Saskatoon. Reception to follow in the Tawaw Centre. Interment of cremated remains will be at a later date.
