SHAKOTKO, ALEX
Loving husband of Vera, dearest dad of Robert (Lisa), Janet (Larry), and Patricia (John), devoted grandfather of Anastasia, Peter, Paul, Alexandra, Rebecca, and Michael passed away peacefully on June 13, 2004 at the age of 85.

Alex was born on the family farm near Biggar, SK on May 21, 1919. He attended the local country school and later moved to Saskatoon to complete his high school education at Bedford Road Collegiate. He then completed a radio technology course in Toronto, ON and returned to Saskatoon to begin his career in electronics.

He fell in love with Vera Lysack and they married in 1950. Alex took over the farm, which his father Michael Shakotko had built, and grew wheat, canola and barley for over 25 years. He sold the farm in 1975 and retired from his winter-time electronics job. He didn't remain idle though, and began another career, this time as a hail adjustor, which took him to all parts of the province.

Alex's interests were wide and varied. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and his love of travel took him to many parts of the world, including Africa and the Middle East. He even spent years honing his skills as a bee-keeper. His garden boasted the finest tomatoes and an abundance of apples, which were shared throughout the neighborhood. He loved to paint and a crossword puzzle book was never far away.

Alex was very active in his church and served as Sunday School Superintendent, as well as a member of the Board of Elders for many years. Alex was a wonderful husband, father, and brother, and he is already sadly missed by all who knew him. He was, above all, a faithful and devoted servant of God and he loved his Lord with all his heart. One of his favorite Bible verses has now been realized. However, as it is written: "No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love Him " but God has revealed it to us by His Spirit. 1 Corinthians 2: 9,10

The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, June 17, 2004 at 1:30 p.m. in the chapel at Circle Drive Alliance Church, 3035 Preston Avenue, conducted by the Reverend Ernie Regier. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to World Vision (1 World Drive, Mississauga, ON L5T 2Y4) the Christian organization which Alex and Vera have supported for all of their married years. Many children, worldwide, have been blessed by Alex's faithful stewardship. Arrangements are entrusted to McKague's Funeral Chapel (664-3131).
