HOFMANN, Mary Ellen (nee Husulak) December 11, 1917 - January 9, 2012
With her family at her side, Mom passed away peacefully on Monday, January 9, 2012 at Veteran's Village, Sherbrooke Community Centre in Saskatoon.

Mary is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Wes; and her children, Fred, Alex (Lynn) and Rhonda. She was predeceased by her parents and her six siblings.

Mom was born in Ethelbert, Manitoba and lived most of her early life in Saskatoon. She attended school at Pleasant Hill and Bedford Road. After attending Scott Business College, Mom spent some time in St. Catherine's, Ontario where she worked at Ridley College. Returning to Saskatoon, Mom landed a job with Federated Co-operatives which is where she found herself being the object of attention by a 'funny little man in a tweed suit'. The attraction went both ways and in May of 1953 she married Wes. They started their life together in Saskatoon and had three children, Fred, Alex and Rhonda. The family moved several times living in Vanguard, Macklin, Hanley, Rosthern and Kindersley before retiring in Saskatoon.

Besides being very devoted to her family, Mary was also involved in 4-H, UCW and OES. Mom had a very creative side which was often seen in her home as well as in her talent in decorating wedding cakes and Ukrainian Easter eggs. Perhaps what people will remember about Mom is her compassion for others, she always found the good in people and was there to offer whatever assistance she could. Mom's kindness extended to all living creatures, from the smallest bug to birds and, of course, to our family dogs throughout the years. Our dogs were her 'grandchildren' and they most definitely were treated as family. We take comfort in knowing that the deep sadness we feel today will be replaced by the many wonderful memories of her sense of humor, her playfulness and her remarkable beauty.

Special thanks to Dr. Ron Kozakavich for his many years of exceptional care and comfort. We would also like to acknowledge and thank management, staff and the compassionate caregivers at Veteran's Village, Sherbrooke Community Centre. You treated Mom with respect, dignity and caring we cannot tell you how much it meant to us to have Mom's final days spent with Dad. From the bottom of our hearts we thank each and every one of you. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Mom's name to Sherbrooke Foundation Inc. (401 Acadia Drive, Saskatoon, S7H 2E7). The Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 p.m on Saturday, January 14th at Mayfair United Church (902-33rd Street West).
