SCARFE, Clarence Stewart (Larry)
Dad passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at St. Paul's Hospital, Saskatoon, with his loving family by his side.

Larry was born October 25th, 1921 in Saskatoon, SK. He attended Westmount and Caswell School and Bedford Road Collegiate. He was a member of the original Saskatoon Boys Band from the age of 10 until the onset of World War 2. He joined the R.C.A.F. in 1940, served one year overseas as a Bomber Pilot and then as an Instructor Pilot until 1945. He was employed by Revenue Canada from 1947 until 1969 then District manager for Canada Pension Plan from 1967 to 1980.

While he and his wife Dawny (nee Anderson) were raising their family in Saskatoon he was an active member of the Lapidary and Saskatoon Photography Club. He played trumpet as a member of the Saskatoon Symphony , R.C.A.F. Reserve Band and Saskatoon Concert Band as well as H.M.C.S. Unicorn Band. He also performed with Don Keeler at the Saskatoon Exhibition Grandstand shows each summer.

Both Larry and his wife Dawny were avid photographers and they shared their love of nature, and each other, through this medium. He also had a passion for hunting and curling and collecting arrowheads. After retiring from the CPP in 1980 he moved to Salt Spring Island, BC. He and his beloved wife, Dawny spent 15 beautiful years on that wonderful Oasis of Canada. While living there his photographic talents were recognized by the Smithsonian for his nature photographs of young fox kits.

After the death of Dawny in 1994 he returned to reside in Saskatoon and be near his family. At 74 he took his love of photography and combined it with an interest in computers to produce many calendars, greeting cards, and birthday wishes for his grandchildren and family.

Larry was predeceased by his beloved wife Dawny. He is survived by his son, Mark; daughter, Marcia (Roy); grandchildren, Taylor (Whitney), Megan (Mick) and Kayla (Derrek); Great granddaughters Hunter and Daylin; Daughter, Susan (Brian), grandchildren Craig (Elska) and Eric.

At his request, no service will be held. Just plant a tree. Do not stand at my grave and weep I am not there; I do not sleep I am the thousand winds that blow I am the diamond glints of snow I am the sunlight on ripened grain I am the gentle autumn rain When you awaken in the morning's hush I am the swift uplifting rush Of quiet birds in circled flight I am the soft stars that shine at night Do not stand at my grave and cry I am not there. I did not die. Lot of Love your family. Arrangements entrusted to CHERISHED MEMORIES FUNERAL SERVICES & CREMATORY, Martensville (242-7888)
