WIEDER, Ruby Lucille (nee Dyck) September 13, 1929 - July 1, 2014
Ruby Lucille Wieder (nee Dyck) went to join her late husband, Carl, on July 1, 2014.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Susan; her sons, David (and Pam), Michael and Gerald (and Jan); grandchildren, Megan, Hannah, Gabriele, Aiden; her great-grandchild, Emersyn; and her brother, Vernon. Ruby was predeceased by her husband, Carl; her mom and dad, Tena and Jake; and son-in-law, Fred.
She was born, raised and educated in Saskatoon (Mayfair School and Bedford Road Collegiate). She was a Registered Nurse grad at City Hospital. She met and married Carl in 1953. As well as nursing, Ruby was a partner in the family business (Mayfair Jewelers) and was a dedicated member of the Mayfair Community for over half a century. Ruby was an active member of St. Michaels Parish, where she played organ and sang in the choir. She was a volunteer tutor for the Mayfair School reading program and at Saskatoon Convalescent Home, where she played piano and led weekly sing-alongs with the residents.
Ruby was passionate about music, loved to create things with her hands - a knitter, photographer, scrap-booker, gardener, and a curator of just about everything. She found ways to combine her interests. For several years she knitted hundred of toques, scarves and mitts for children in need. She always loved a new challenge, whether it was riding on a dogsled through Northern Saskatchewan, or digging for dinosaur bones at an archeological dig. But nothing, absolutely nothing was more important to Ruby than her family. She never hesitated to introduce herself to a stranger, and she made friends everywhere she went.
In her later years, Ruby was a resident at Sherbrooke Commuity Centre, where she brought hours of happiness to fellow residents and staff with her music and wonderful sense of humor.
The family is grateful to Sherbrooke staff and residents for the love they showed Mom. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Sherbrooke Foundation at 401 Acadia Drive, Saskatoon, Sk. Canada S7H 2E7 or contact Brenda Craig (brenda.craig@saskatoonhealthregion.ca). Thank you. There will be time of Visitation for family and friends at the Saskatoon Funeral Home, Sunday, July 6, 2014 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Michael's Parish on Monday, July 7, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. followed by Interment at Woodlawn Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to mail@saskatoonfuneralhome.com. Arrangements have been entrusted to SASKATOON FUNERAL HOME (306-244-5577).
