DECKER, Margaret "Marg"
With heavy hearts, our family announces the passing of Margaret Decker (née McGrath) of Saskatoon, SK on June 24, 2020 in St. Paul's Hospital after a brief illness.
Marg was born in Kindersley, SK on April 23, 1928 to Margaret and Michael McGrath. She was predeceased by her parents and siblings: Teresa, Pearl, Jim, Joe, and Frank (Terry), along with her husband, Floyd and her youngest son, Bob.
Marg was a devoted, loving mother to her children, Ken (Aki), Lori (Bill), and Bob (Lyn); grandmother to Leo (Richelle), Ivan (Emily), Tom (Maya), Esmé, Conrad, Blair, Martha (Jeff), Zoë (Danny), and Kay (Nathan) and great-grandmother to Mason, Ivy, Max, and Eli. Marg took great pride in her family, and in all their activities and achievements.
After graduating from Bedford Road Collegiate, Marg worked in the Quakers Oats office until her marriage to Floyd Decker. While raising their children, she was an active member in the Kinette Club and the CWL, and enjoyed playing house bridge with friends.
In 1971 she began working in the Cards & Records Dept of The Bay, and Marg and her Bay friends went on to enjoy Senior Fitness at the Field House followed by coffee at McDonalds.
Marg supported the annual MS Walk, and formed Team Decker with Colleen, Guy and Dante Blanchette, and was a member of the Saskatoon Bridge Club for many years.
Marg traveled with ease, always looking forward to upcoming events and holidays shared with her family in Calgary, Vancouver, and Kauai.
Marg was a dear friend to many. She valued the camaraderie and support of her niece Colleen (Guy, Dante) Bob, Brad & Carla, Dan & Kate, Scott, and neighbors Willie, Kristi and Mike. She relied on them for assistance and company, and in turn was always there to attend to friends who were sick or in need.
Marg appreciated the special care taken by Dr. Paul Murphy, Bob's Christ the King classmate, to retain her eyesight after the onset of Glaucoma.
Margaret Decker will be missed for her kindness, her keen wit, and her ability to get us laughing with the most entertaining stories. She drew people in, with her interest in them, and her love and compassion of others.
And who won't miss her Shortbread cookies, Angel Food cake with berries, Jam-Jams, Nanaimo and Magic Bars! What family and friends at the '65' card-table won't still tremble with fear at the thought of that echoing and triumphant cry, "I'm OUT!!!"
We will continue to hear her words of wisdom, laughter, and love, in all the days ahead.
A Celebration of Life for Margaret Decker, will be held at a future date."
