BOUGHTON, Shirley Irene (nee, Leard)
With heavy hearts we announce that Shirley, beloved wife of Glenn Rayner Boughton, died peacefully at Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria on July 8, 2018.

Shirley was born in Saskatoon, SK to LT and Hannah Leard on December 3, 1931. She was the youngest of their seven children. She attended Bedford Road Collegiate and was active in the Young People's group at St Thomas Wesley United Church. It was here that her life-long romance with Glenn Boughton began. After high school Shirley attended Normal School in Saskatoon where she received her teaching certificate. She taught in a rural one-room school near Clavet, SK before marrying Glenn, on the June 27, 1953. They lived in Saskatoon until 1958 and then moved to Regina where they raised their family.

Shirley was an active member of Rosemont United Church for many years. She was also an enthusiastic singer and actor, playing numerous roles with several amateur theatre companies over the years. She had a remarkable ability to memorize, and was a truly formidable trivia player. Shirley was the consummate traveler; one of her favorite places was to the right of Glenn as they travelled the highways of North America and beyond. She passed this love of travelling on to her children.

Shirley joined Glenn in the Masonic world in 1984 when they both became members of Regina Chapter #7, Order of the Eastern Star. She was active for many years and served as District Deputy Grand Matron of Saskatchewan in 2000. She was also Worthy Matron of Chapter #7 several times and was known for her ability to recite the entire installation ceremony.

After 50 years on Walker Street in Regina, they made the decision to move to Victoria, BC. It was during this time that Shirley suffered a stroke and struggled to recover. With the loving help of her family and friends, but most of all her husband, she regained many of her previous abilities. Shirley and Glenn found a new home at The Wellesley Retirement Community and she lived her remaining years with courageous determination and a positive attitude.

On June 27, 2018 Shirley and Glenn celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary surrounded by their children, family and friends.
