HIEBERT, Richard George August 3, 1954 - July 5, 2018
Richard Hiebert, beloved husband of Jane Hiebert of Saskatoon, passed away at St. Paul's Hospital on July 5, 2018 at the age of 63 years.
Richard was born and raised in Saskatoon, attended various elementary schools, and graduated from Bedford Road Collegiate. He put in one year at the U of S in hopes of getting into medicine. For reasons unknown, he left and went to work with his father, who was with Park Derochie. On December 16, 1973, Richard and Jane were introduced by a blind date arranged by close friends. They were engaged by Easter, married July 6, 1974 and their first son was born in October 1975.
Richard and family moved to Estevan, SK, where the "training pool" was for SaskPower, and resided there for 6 years before returning to Saskatoon in May of 1981. Richard was an Operating Engineer for the next 20 years after which he became involved in numerous projects for SaskPower. He attained his CRSP designation and worked as a Health and Safety Coordinator to date, working primarily with large projects. He so enjoyed his work and all the people he worked with.
Richard always loved gardening, cooking, watching and playing such sports as football, baseball, hockey and golf. He and Jane took yearly vacations of late and golfed regularly. They loved their golfing holidays together. He loved camping and hanging out with all of his friends. Richard loved his boys very much and did everything he could to be the best father possible. He coached the boys' baseball and soccer and helped his wife with women's hockey by coaching for 6 or 7 years.
Richard passed away much too soon. On May 2 he was diagnosed with pleural mesothelioma, which is an asbestos related cancer. He was so very brave and courageous, fighting as hard as possible, but it moved so very fast. He will be sorely missed as the most loving husband, father and grandfather, and as a mentor and friend.
Richard will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Jane; sons, Vince (Kim), Scott (Katherine) and Brent; grandchildren, Hayden, Logan, Lacey, Ava and Maedeen; brother, Barry (Teri) Hiebert of Kamloops; sister, Kim (Kevin) Taylor of Saskatoon; mother-in-law, Betty Hendrickx Fischer of Saskatoon; brothers-in-law, Jack (Linda), Mario (Wendy) and Paul Hendrickx of Saskatoon and Karl (Debbie) Hendrickx of Manchester, England; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Funeral Home (east on 8th Street; first right past Briargate Road). The family would like to thank everyone for their support during this difficult journey with special thanks to all of the staff at St. Paul's Hospital for their kind and compassionate care of Richard. Condolences may be emailed to the family at www.hillcrestmemorial.ca. Arrangements entrusted to Carley Brown.
