Muriel Byer
1916-03-13
BYER, Muriel Blanch (nee Crowder)
Muriel was born March 13, 1916 to William and Myrtle (nee Collison) Crowder in Dundas County, Ontario. As an infant she moved with the family to Star City, then later to Saskatoon, where she attended Princess and Princess Alex Elementary Schools and Bedford Road Collegiate prior to completing the commercial course at the new Technical Collegiate.
On June 16, 1937 Muriel married Carl Byer, and their daughter Arlene was born in May 1938. When WW II was declared Carl enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force and Muriel accompanied him on many of his postings in Canada, first to Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario and then to Vulcan and MacLeod, Alberta, returning to Saskatoon when it was time for Arlene to start school. Following the war, Carl's employment took the family to Kelso and Wawota, Saskatchewan, and finally, in 1954, to Rosetown where Muriel resided until she returned to Saskatoon in 2000.
Muriel was an energetic, outgoing person who loved people; in every community in which she lived she found employment where she could meet and serve the public. Many in the Rosetown area remember her simply as "Muriel from King's."
Predeceased by her parents; her brother Durwood and sister-in-law Helen Crowder; nephew Richard Einarson; sister-in-law Ethel Einarson; brother-in-law Stan Byer; and in July 1998 her husband Carl.
Muriel is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Arlene and Ernie Hiller, and her granddaughter Kathryn Hiller (Murray Timm), all of Saskatoon. She will also be missed by her sister-in-law Shirley Byer- Curtis; her brother-in-law Ron (Penny) Byer; her nephews Gary Crowder, Doug (Leeanna) Byer, Chris, Patrick and Dan Curtis; her nieces Donna (Raymond) Cyr, Linda (George) Fast, Shelley Kent and Pat (Blaine) Thorsley and their families, as well as special friends Sam Muenzler, Jessie Goodwin, Shae and Jaden Muenzler, Avian, Gage and Slade Hanson, and by the many, many friends she made over the years.
A Christian Memorial Service will be held at Elim Church (419 Slimmon Road) on Friday, November 16th at 1:00 p.m. Interment to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Those so wishing may direct gifts in memory of Muriel to her favourite long-time charity, Northern Canada Evangelical Mission, P.O. Box 3030, Prince Albert, SK S6V 7V4. Arrangements in care of David Schurr - MOURNING GLORY FUNERAL SERVICES (978-5200). www.mourningglory.ca
