ROOKE, Margaret Jean (Pat) August 30, 1923 - April 30, 2007
It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that the family of Pat Rooke (nee Paterson) wish to announce her passing on April 30, 2007.
Pat was born in Wakaw, SK and lived there for two years until her father's untimely death. Pat and her mother then moved to her grandfather's farm, south of Saskatoon. Pat attended Merrill School which was several miles from her home, often having to ride horseback, ski or bike to get there. When Pat was 13, she boarded in Saskatoon and attended Bedford Road Collegiate. When she graduated from high school she trained to be a nurse at City Hospital where she met many young women who became lifelong friends.
In 1945 she moved to Eston, SK and began her nursing career in the Eston Union Hospital. It was in Eston where she met and married Bill Rooke who became her lifelong partner and best friend. Pat and Bill raised five children. Although Pat discontinued her nursing career to look after children, the community and church received the gifts of her foresight, creative thinking and boundless energy. She served on countless committees and boards and tirelessly fund raised for many organizations. In her later years her energy and commitment centered on the development and maintenance of a museum in Eston which is now called the Prairie West Historical Centre.
Pat leaves to mourn her loving husband, Bill; her children, Barbara (Cam), Randy (Sheila), Neil (Nancy), Sandra, Robert (Kim); grandchildren, Tara (Wojtek), Alanna, Colin (Michelle), Ryan, Jocelyn, Alexa, Shayli, Riley, Jesse, Ursula, Vernon, Santana, Sage, Justine and Max; and two great-granddaughters, Keelin and Nina.
A celebration of Pat's life will be held at St. Andrew's United Church in Eston, on Saturday, May 5, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, Memorial donations may be made to the Prairie West Historical Society, Box 910, Eston, SK, S0L 1A0.
