Eric, of Kindersley, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2006, after a brave battle with cancer.
Eric was born in Saskatoon on March 29, 1929. After graduating from Bedford Road Collegiate he worked for the Saskatoon StarPhoenix until the family moved to Kindersley in 1963. In 1965 Eric became a partner in Kelly Agencies Insurance until his retirement in 1992. On July 1, 1950 he married Yvonne King, of Biggar, and they were blessed with two children.
Eric was active in community affairs serving as an alderman for the Town of Kindersley for 12 years. He loved his sports enjoyed baseball, hockey, playing with the Old Goosers hockey team, and was a big supporter of the Kindersley Junior Klippers. He loved his golf and especially this last year with his two special friends, Wally and Earl. Yvonne and Eric enjoyed travelling and the many winters spent in Indio, CA.
Eric was predeceased by his daughter, Sandra Walliser; his parents, Albert and Doris Smith; and his brother, Douglas. Eric is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Yvonne; his son, Michael (Valerie) of Calgary; his grandsons, Shaun Walliser (Dawna) of Brooks, Jason Walliser (Mindy) and Cory Walliser (Rachel) of Calgary, the pride and joy of his life great-granddaughters, Gabrielle and Courtenay Walliser of Brooks; his sister, Jean Latimer (Lloyd) of Consort; and his brother, Edward (Enid) of Saskatoon.
A celebration of Eric's life was held on Saturday, September 23 at St. Paul's United Church with Rev. Chris Ewing and Rev. Lorna King officiating. Interment followed at the Kindersley Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Kindersley Palliative Care Unit or the Brain Tumor Foundation of Canada c/o Prairie Rose Floral & Gifts, Kindersley, SK, S0L 1S0.
