Clara Hume passed away on March 18, 2006 at the age of 91 years.
She was predeceased by her husband, Clare who died in December 2004. She is survived by her daughter, Lorraine (Lori) Harvie and husband, Byron of Saskatoon, and their children Janice of Calgary, Jeff of Victoria, and granddaughter Jordan of Calgary; her daughter, ValerieJean (VJ) Hume and husband, Ted Pethes of Palm Springs, CA; and her son, Gordon of London, ON.
She was born Clara Isabella Burbidge near Glidden, Saskatchewan on June 17, 1914. The family moved to Saskatoon where Clara finished elementary school and attended Bedford Road Collegiate. She met Clare at an alumni dance and they were married in 1937.
Clara started painting as a child and studied drawing, watercolor, oil painting, ceramics and sculpture at the Technical School and University of Saskatchewan. She was particularly noted for her detailed acrylic paintings of prairie wildflowers and grasses, and prairie landscapes. Her exhibits over the years included the Mendel Gallery and private galleries. Many homes and schools are beautified with her work.
Clara cherished her Book Club which met for 58 years. She was a long-standing member of the women's group at Third Avenue United Church, and the Saskatoon Toastmistress Club. She was a volunteer docent giving art tours at the Mendel. She was a devoted wife and mother.
Her siblings Edith, Florence and Fred Burbidge predeceased her.
